GAUGE
12 sts = 4”;  16 rows = 4” in St st
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE

BACK

With straight needles, cast on 50(56-62-68-74-80) sts.  Work even in Garter St for 4”.  Work even in St st until piece measures 8(8-8-8½-9-9½)” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armholes:  Bind off 3(4-5-6-6-7) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 44(48-52-56-62-66) sts.

Dec Row (RS):  K3, k2 tog, k to last 5 sts, SSK, k3 – 42(46-50-54-60-64) sts.  Rep this dec every RS row 2(3-3-4-5-6) times more – 38(40-44-46-50-52) sts.  Work even until armholes measure 7(7½-8-8-8½-9)”, end on WS.

Shape Shoulders:  Bind off 4(4-5-6-7-7) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 3(4-5-5-6-7) sts at beg of the next 2 rows.  Bind off remaining 24 sts for back neck.

LEFT FRONT

With straight needles, cast on 31(34-37-40-43-46) sts.  Work even in Garter St for 4”.

Establish Frontband:  Next Row (RS):  K19(22-25-28-31-34), place marker, k to end.

Following Row:  K to marker, p to end.  Work even in pat as established until piece measures 8(8-8-8½-9-9½)” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armhole:  Bind off 3(4-5-6-6-7) sts, k to end – 28(30-32-34-37-39) sts.  Work 1 row even.

Dec Row (RS):  K3, k2 tog, k to end – 27(29-31-33-36-38) sts.  Rep this dec every RS row 2(3-3-4-5-6) times more – 25(26-28-29-31-32) sts.  Work even until armhole measures 4(4½-5-5-5½-6)”, end on RS.

Shape Neck:  Bind off 12 sts, work to end – 13(14-16-17-19-20) sts.  Dec 1 st at neck edge every RS row 6 times – 7(8-10-11-13-14) sts.  Work even until armhole measures 7(7½-8-8½-9)”, end on WS.  Bind off 4(4-5-6-7-7) sts at armhole edge once, then 3(4-5-5-6-7) sts once for shoulder.

RIGHT FRONT

Work to correspond to left front reversing all shaping and placement of frontband.  Work Garter St frontband at beg of RS rows.  Bind off for armhole on WS row.  Work armhole decs at end of RS rows as SSK, k3. When armhole measures 3(3  1/2- 4- 4- 4 1/2- 5)”, end on WS.

Buttonhole Row (RS):  K5, bind off 3 sts, k to end.

Following Row:  P to marker, k to end, casting on 3 sts over sts bound off on previous row.  When armhole measures same as left front, bind off for neck on RS row.  Bind off for shoulder on WS rows.

SLEEVES

With straight needles, cast on 38(40-44-46-50-52) sts.  Work even in Garter St for 4”.  Work even in St st until sleeve measures 5” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Cap:  Bind off 3(4-5-6-6-7) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 32(32-34-34-38-38) sts.

Dec Row (RS):  k1, SSK, k to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1 – 30(30-32-32-36-36) sts.  Rep this dec every RS row 8 times more, end on WS.  Bind off 4(3-3-3-3-2) sts at beg of the next 2 rows.  Bind off remaining 6(8-10-10-14-16) sts.

COLLAR

With straight needles, cast on 32 sts.  Knit 1 row.  Cast on 2 sts at beg of the next 16 rows, then inc 1 st at beg of the next 12 rows – 76 sts.  Knit 1 row.  Bind off loosely.

FINISHING

Sew shoulder seams. (Watch shoulder seam video.) Sew cast-on edge of collar to neck edge.  Sew in sleeves. (Watch mattress stitch video.) Sew side and sleeve seams.  Lap right front over left front and sew button to left frontband under buttonhole of right front.
