LACE PAT (multiple of 8 sts)
Row 1 and all WS rows: Purl.
Row 2: Knit.
Row 4: K3, *yo, ssk, k6; rep from *, end k3 instead of k6.
Row 6: K1, *k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k3; rep from *, end k2 instead of k3.
Row 8: Rep row 4.
Row 10: Knit.
Row 12: K7; rep from * of row 4, end k1.
Row 14: K5; rep from * of row 6, end k3.
Row 16: Rep row 12.
Rep rows 1-16 for lace pat.
BACK
With smaller needles, cast on 103(109-115-121-127) sts.
Row 1 (RS): K1 TBL, * p1, k1TBL, rep from * across.
Row 2: P1, * k1TBL, p1, rep from * across. Rep these 2 rows for 11/2”, end on RS. Change to larger needles. P the next row on WS (row 1 of Lace Pat), dec 17(19-19-21-23) sts evenly spaced across – 86(90-96-100-104) sts. Continue in Lace Pat as follows:
Next Row (RS): K3(1-0-2-0), work Row 2 of Lace Pat over next 80(88-96-96-104) sts, k3(1-0-2-0). Continue in pat as established until piece measures 14" from beg, end with Lace pat row 11.
Shape Armholes: Bind off 4 sts at beg of the next 2 rows, 2 sts at beg of the next 4(4-6-6-6) rows. Dec 1 st each side on next row, then every other row 2(3-3-2-3) times. Work even on remaining 64(66-68-74-76) sts until armholes measure 71/2(8-81/2-9-91/2)”, end on WS.
Shape Shoulders: Bind off 3(4-4-4-5) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, 4(4-4-5-5) sts at beg of the next 6 rows. Bind off remaining 34(34-36-36-36) sts for back neck.
FRONT
Work same as for back, beginning with Row 9 of Lace Pat on dec row instead of Row 1. When piece measures 14(14-14-15-15)” from beg, end with Lace pat row 3(3-3-11-11).
Shape Placket: Beg (or continue) armhole shaping same as for back. AT THE SAME TIME, bind off center 8 sts for placket and work both sides at once until placket measures 6(61/2-7-71/2-8)”.
Shape Neck and Shoulders: Bind off at each neck edge 5 sts once, 3 sts once, 2 sts once, dec 1 st every other row 3(3-4-4-4) times, AT THE SAME TIME, when armholes measure 71/2(8-81/2-9-91/2)”, shape shoulders same as for back.
SLEEVES
With smaller needles, cast on 57(57-59-59-61) sts. Work in ribbing same as for back for 1", end on RS. Change to larger needles. P the next row on WS (row 1 of Lace Pat), dec 9 sts evenly spaced across – 48(48-50-50-52) sts.
Next Row (RS): K0(0-1-1-2), work Row 2 of Lace Pat over next 48 sts, k0(0-1-1-2). Continue in pat as established for 3 more rows, end on WS. Inc 1 st each side on next row, then every 2nd row 7(8-10-11-11) times more, working incs into Lace Pat as sts become available. Work even on 64(66-72-74-76) sts until piece measures 51/2” from beg.
Shape Cap: Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows, 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side every 2nd row 3(3-5-5-6) times, every 4th row 5(6-6-7-7) times. Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows, 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Bind off rem 20(20-22-22-22) sts.
FINISHING
Steam pieces (See instructions on page 1). Sew shoulder seams.
Placket Buttonhole Band: With RS facing, using smaller needles, pick up and k 8 sts along center front bound-off placket sts, inc 1 st. Beg with Row 2, work in ribbing same as for back on 9 sts for 13/4”, end on WS.
Next (Buttonhole) Row: Rib 4 sts, bind off 2 sts, rib to end. On next row, cast on 2 sts over bound-off sts. Continue ribbing until band fits along placket edge. Place sts on a holder. Sew band in place.
Placket Button Band: Pick up 8 sts behind buttonhole band sts, inc 1 st. Beg with Row 2, work in ribbing same as for back until band fits along placket edge. Place sts on a holder. Sew band in place.
Collar: With WS facing, using smaller needles, rib 9 sts from left front placket band, pick up and k 73(73-77-77-77) sts evenly around neck edge, rib 9 sts from right front holder - 91(91-95-95-95) sts. Keeping first and last 9 sts in ribbing as established, work remaining sts in St st, beg with a p row, for 5". Work all sts in ribbing same as for back for 1". Bind off in ribbing. Set in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew on button.
