FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Bust (buttoned) – 45(53)”.

MATERIALS
BERROCO SMART COTTON (50 grs) 4(5) balls color #1730 Stone (A).
BERROCO GLACE (50 grs) 5(6) hanks color #2328 Mushroom (B).
BERROCO METALLIC FX (25 grs) 4(5) hanks #1001 Gold (C).
BERROCO GLACE COLORS (50 grs) 4(5) hanks color #2831 Mother of Pearl (D).
Straight knitting needles, sizes 7 and 8 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
Size 4.50mm (G) crochet hook
Eight 1/2” buttons.

GAUGE
5 sts = 1"; 17 rows = 2" in diagonal and stripe pat with size 7 and 8 needles.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

DIAGONAL PAT
Note: Sl all sts WYIF to create float on RS of work.
Row 1 and all WS rows: Purl.
Row 2 (RS): K1, *k3, sl 3; rep from * to last st, end k1.
Row 4: K1, *k2, sl 3, k1; rep from * to last st, end k1.
Row 6: K1, *k1, sl 3, k2; rep from * to last st, end k1.
Row 8: K1, *sl 3, k3; rep from * to last st, end k1.
Row 10: K1, *sl 2, k3, sl 1; rep from * to last st, end k1.
Row 12: K1, *sl 1, k3, sl 2; rep from * to last st, end k1.
Rep rows 1-12 for Diagonal Pat.

STRIPE PAT
*With size 7 needles, work 12(14) rows A, 12(14) rows B, with size 8 needles work 12(14) rows C. With size 7 needles work 12(14) rows D; rep from * for Stripe Pat (48-56 rows).
Note: Garment is shown in smaller size with 12-row stripes. The larger size is written with 14-row stripes to keep the same color placement as the smaller size.

BODY
Note: Cardigan is worked in one piece from sleeve to sleeve.
With size 7 needles and A, cast on 44(50) sts for right sleeve. Work in Diagonal and Stripe pats for desired size, inc 1 st each side every 4th row 25(13) times, then every 6th row 1(12) times working incs into pat sts. Work even on 96(100) sts until there are 91/2 stripes or 114(133) rows from beg. Piece should measure approximately 131/2(151/2)” from beg. Cast on 68(70) sts at beg of next 2 rows for side seams. Continue in pats as established on 232(240) sts until there are 180(220) rows from beg.
Divide for front and back: Next Row (WS): P116(120) for back, place remaining sts on a holder for right front. Work on back sts only, dec 1 st at beg of next RS row for neck and continue to dec 1 st at neck edge every other row 4 times more–111(115) sts. Work even in pat as established until there are 230(270) rows from beg. Inc 1 st at neck edge on next row, then every other row 4 times more – 116(120) sts. Work even in pat as established until there are 20 stripes or 240(280) rows from beg, end with 12(14) rows D. Place sts on a holder. Sl 116(120) sts from right front holder to needle to work next row from WS.

RIGHT FRONT
Shape Neck: Next Row (WS): Continue in pat, bind off 5 sts (neck edge), work to end. Continue to bind off from neck edge 2 sts twice, then dec 1 st every other row 4 times. Work even on remaining 103(107) sts until there are 204(238) rows from beg, end with 12(14) rows A. With smaller needles and B, p next row on WS.
Row 1 (RS): K1, * p1, k1, rep from * across.
Row 2: P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across. Rep these 2 rows for 11/2”, end on WS. Bind off all sts in ribbing.

LEFT FRONT
With smaller needles and B, cast on 103(107) sts for front edge. Work in ribbing same as for right front for 11/2”. Continue in Diagonal and Stripe Pats , beg with 12(14) rows C, until there are 12(14) rows from beg.
Shape Neck: Next Row (WS): Inc 1 st in first st (neck edge), p to end. Continue to inc 1 st at neck edge every other row 3 times more, then cast on 2 sts twice, then 5 sts once. Work even in pat on 116(120) sts until there are 24(28) rows from beg, end with 12(14) rows D. Sl sts from back holder to same needle with left front, to work next row from WS - 232(240) sts. Continue in diagonal and stripe pat for 66(77) rows, end with 6(7) rows B. Bind off 68(70) sts at beg of next 2 rows for side seam. Continue on remaining 96(100) sts for left sleeve, for 6 rows. Dec 1 st each side on next row, then every 6th row 0(11) times, then every 4th row 25(13) times. Work even on remaining 44(50) sts until there are 35 stripes or 420(490) rows from beg, end with 12(14) rows C. Bind off.

FINISHING
Sew side and sleeve seams. Fold ribbing of both frontbands in half to WS and sl st in place. Place markers for 8 buttons on left frontband, the first 1" above lower edge and the last 1/2" below start of neck shaping. With RS facing, using crochet hook and B, work 1 row sc around lower edge, working through double thickness across ends of frontbands. Fasten off. Work in same manner around neck edge of jacket, ch1, DO NOT TURN. Working from LEFT to RIGHT, work in backwards sc around entire outside edge of jacket, working through double thickness of frontbands along both front edges. AT THE SAME TIME, make 8 button loops along right front edge opposite markers on left frontband, working ch 5, sk 3 st's for each button loop. Join with a sl st in first sc and fasten off. Work 1 row sc and 1 row backwards sc along lower edge of each sleeve. Sew on buttons.
