in Smart Cotton, Metallic FX and Glace. A sleeveless mock turtleneck pullover is knit in
traditional Aran stitches and embellished with chain stitch crochet.

Directions are for women’s size X-Small. Changes for sizes Small, Medium, Large and X-Large are in parentheses.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Bust – 36(38-40-42-44)”.
Length – 22(22-221/2-231/2-24)”.

MATERIALS
BERROCO SMART COTTON (50 grs) 8(9-9-10-11) balls #1328 mushroom (MC).
BERROCO METALLIC FX(25 grs) 1(2-2-2-2) hanks #1001 gold (A).
BERROCO GLACE (50 grs) 1 hank #2328 mushroom (B).
Straight knitting needles, sizes 4 and 7 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
24" length circular knitting needle, size 4.
Cable needle (cn)
Crochet hook, size 4.00mm (F) for embroidery

GAUGE
5 sts = 1"; 8 rows = 1" in moss st with size 7 needles.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

STITCH GLOSSARY
Right Twist (RT): Skip 1 st, k 2nd st, then k first st and sl both sts from LH needle.
Right Purl Twist (RPT): Skip 1 st, k 2nd st, then p first st and sl both sts from LH needle.
Left Purl Twist (LPT): Skip 1 st, p into back lp of 2nd st, then k first st and sl both sts from LH needle.

MOSS ST
Row 1 (WS): *K1, p1; rep from * to end.
Rows 2 and 4: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.
Row 3: *P1, k1; rep from * to end.
Rep rows 1-4 for moss st.

K3, P2 RIB (multiple of 5 sts plus 3)
Row 1 (RS):
*K3, p2; rep from *, end k3.
Row 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts as they face you..
Rep rows 1 and 2 for k3, p2 rib.

DIAMOND PAT (over 14 sts)
Row 1
(WS): K6, p2, k6.
Row 2: P6, RT, p6.
Row 3 and all following WS rows: K the knit sts and p the purl sts as they face you.
Row 4: P5, RPT, LPT, p5.
Row 6: P4, RPT, p2, LPT, p4.
Row 8: P3, RPT, p1, RT, p1, LPT, p3.
Row 10: P2, RPT, p1, RPT, LPT, p1, LPT, p2.
Row 12: [P1, RPT] twice, p2, [LPT, p1] twice.
Row 14: P1, k1, p2, k1, p4, k1, p2, k1, p1.
Row 16: P1, LPT, p1, LPT, p2, RPT, p1, RPT, p1.
Row 18: P2, LPT, p1, LPT, RPT, p1, RPT, p2.

SPIRAL PAT (over 10 sts)
Rows 1 and 3 (WS)
: K2, p6, k2.
Row 2: P2, [k2tog but do not drop sts from LH needle, k first st again and sl both sts tog from needle] 3 times, p2.
Row 4: P2, k1, [k2tog but do not drop sts from LH needle, k first st again and sl both sts tog from needle] twice, k1, p2.
Rep rows 1-4 for spiral pat.

BACK
With smaller straight needles and A, cast on 113(118-123-133-138) sts. Work in k3, p2 Rib for 1 row. Change to MC and continue rib until piece measures 21/4” from beg, dec 21(20-21-25-26) sts evenly across last RS row – 92(98-102-108-112) sts. Change to larger needles.
Establish pats:
Row 1 (WS):
Work 25(28-30-33-35) sts in moss st, p1, k1 (mark this st on RS for embroidery), p1, 10 sts spiral pat, p1 (mark this st on RS for embroidery), 14 sts diamond pat, p1 (mark this st on RS for embroidery), 10 sts spiral pat, p1, k1 (mark this st on RS for embroidery), p1, 25(28-30-33-35) sts in moss st. Continue in pats as established until piece measures 131/2(13-13-131/2-131/2)” from beg.
Shape Armholes: Bind off 4(5-5-5-5) sts at beg of next 2 rows, 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows, 2 sts at beg of next 2(2-2-2-4) rows. Dec 1 st each side on next row, then every other row 4(4-4-5-4) times more. Work even on 64(68-72-76-78) sts until armholes measure 71/2(8-81/2-9-91/2)”.
Shape Shoulders and Neck: Bind off 4(4-4-5-5) sts at beg of the next 8(4-2-6-4) rows, then 0(5-5-6-6) sts at beg of the next 0(4-6-2-4) rows, AT THE SAME TIME, bind off center 20(20-22-22-22) sts for neck and working both sides at once, bind off at each neck edge 3 sts twice.

FRONT
Work same as for back until armholes measure 51/2(6-61/2-7-71/2)”, end on WS.
Shape Neck and Shoulders: Next Row (RS): Work 25(27-28-30-31) sts, join another ball of yarn and bind off center 14(14-16-16-16) sts, work to end. Working both sides at once, bind off 2 sts at each neck edge twice, then dec 1 st at each neck edge every other row 5 times, AT THE SAME TIME, when armholes measure 71/2(8-81/2-9-91/2)”, shape shoulders same as for back.

Embroidery
Steam pieces to measurements (See instructions on page 1).
Note: To work chain st embroidery, hold yarn on WS of fabric and pull through to RS with crochet hook and make a chain. Be sure to work chain st loosely, skipping every other row, when necessary, to keep work flat.
For Diamond: With crochet hook and A, work chain st loosely in center of knit st of each diamond. With B, work chain st in purl st between diamonds.
For knit st either side of diamond: With A, work chain st in center of each knit st and next to knit st (closest to diamond). With B, work chain st on other side of this knit st.
For marked purl sts: With A, work chain st along marked p sts.

FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams.
Neckband: With RS facing, using circular needle and MC, beg at center back neck, pick up and k 105(105-110-110-110) sts evenly spaced around neck edge. Mark for beg of round and carry marker up.
Round 1: * K3, p2, rep from * around. Rep this round for 31/4”. Change to A and rib 1 row. With A, bind off loosely in ribbing.
Armhole bands: Sew side seams.
With RS facing, using circular needle and MC, beg at side seam, pick up and k 115(120-130-135-145) sts evenly around armhole edge. Join and work in ribbing same as for neckband for 3/4”. Bind off loosely in ribbing.
