in Smart Cotton. A simple pleated skirt decreses into a contrasting garter band and then becomes a sleeveless V-neck cable top.

Directions are for child’s size 2. Changes for sizes 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 are in parentheses.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Chest – 22(24-26-28-30-31-33)”.
Length – 17(191/4-213/4-231/4-241/2-253/4-271/4)”.

MATERIALS
BERROCO SMART COTTON (50 grs) 5(6-7-8-9-10-11) balls #1300 White (MC), 1 ball each #1327 Green Tea (A) and #1326 Jordan Almond (B).
Straight knitting needles, size 7 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
16" length circular knitting needle, size 7.
Cable needle (cn).

GAUGE
21 sts = 4"; 30 rows = 4" in St st.
25 sts = 4"; 30 rows = 4" in k8, p2 rib.
14 sts = 13/4” in cable panel.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGES.

CABLE PANEL (over 14 sts)
Rows 1, 3 and 5 (RS):
P3, k8, p3.
Row 2 and all WS rows: K3, p8, k3.
Row 7: P3, sl 4 sts to cn and hold in FRONT, k4, k4 from cn, p3.
Rows 9 and 11: Rep Row 1.
Row 12: Rep Row 2.
Rep Rows 1-12 for Cable Panel.

BACK
With straight needles, using MC, cast on 122(132-142-152-162-172-182) sts.
Row 1 (RS): P2, * k8, p2, rep from * across.
Row 2: K2, * p8, k2, rep from * across. Rep these 2 rows 8(10-12-13-13-13-13) times more.
Next (Dec) Row (RS): P2, [k2tog, k4, k2tog, p2] 12(13-14-15-16-17-18) times – 98(106-114-122-130-138-146) sts.
Next Row (WS): K2, * p6, k2, rep from * across.
Next Row (RS): P2, * k6, p2, rep from * across. Rep these 2 rows 6(7-9-9-10-11-12) times more, then rep first row once more, end on WS.
Next (Dec) Row (RS): P2, [k2tog, k2, k2tog, p2] 12(13-14-15-16-17-18) times – 74(80-86-92-98-104-110) sts.
Next Row (WS): K2, * p4, k2, rep from * across.
Next Row (RS): P2, * k4, p2, rep from * across. Rep these 2 rows 6(7-9-9-10-11-12) times more, then rep first row once more, end on WS.
Next (Dec) Row (RS): P2(2tog-2-2tog-2-2tog-2tog), [ k1, k2 tog, k1, p2 ] 12(13-14-15-16-17-17) times, [ For size 14 ONLY: k1, k2 tog, k1, p2 tog ] - 62(66-72-76-82-86-90) sts. Piece should measure approximately 7(8-91/2-10-101/2-11-111/2)” from beg. With A, k2 rows. With MC, k 2 rows. With B, k 2 rows. Continue with MC only to end of piece.
Establish Cable Panel
Next Row (RS):
Work 24(26-29-31-34-36-38) sts in St st, 14 sts cable panel, 24(26-29-31-34-36-38) sts in St st. Continue in pat as established until piece measures 5(6-61/2-7-71/2-8-81/2)” above last garter ridge, end on WS.
Shape Armholes: Bind off 5(5-5-5-6-6-6) sts at beg of next 2 rows, 2 sts at beg of next 2(2-2-2-2-2-4) rows. Dec 1 st each side every other row 0(1-2-2-2-3-2) times. Work even on remaining 48(50-54-58-62-64-66) sts until armholes measure 33/4(4-41/2-43/4-5-51/4-53/4)”.
Shape Neck: Next row (RS): Work 16(16-18-19-20-21-21) sts, join another ball of yarn and bind off center 16(18-18-20-22-22-24) sts, work to end. Working both sides at once, bind off 2 sts at each neck edge twice. Bind off remaining 12(12-14-15-16-17-17) sts each side for shoulders.

FRONT
Work same as for back until armholes measure 1/4(1/4-3/4-11/4-11/4-11/2-13/4)”, end on WS.
Shape Neck: Next Row (RS): Continue armhole shaping, work to 8 sts before center front (or center of cable panel), k2tog, p2, k3, inc 1 st in next st for selvage st, join 2nd ball of yarn, inc 1 st in next st for selvage st, k3, p2, k2tog, work to end. Working both sides at once, continue to dec 1 st at each neck edge as before, (work 1 selvage st at each neck edge in garter st) every RS row, 12(13-13-14-15-15-16) times more. Work even until armholes measure same as back. Bind off remaining 12(12-14-15-16-17-17) sts each side for shoulders.

FINISHING
Steam pieces (See instructions on page 1). Sew shoulder seams.
Neckband: With RS facing, using circular needle and MC, beg at center back neck, pick up and k 72(76-76-80-84-84-88) sts evenly around neck edge. Bind off all sts on next row.
Armhole bands: With RS facing using circular needle and MC, pick up and k 48(50-56-62-64-66-72) sts evenly spaced around each armhole edge. Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 3 rows. Bind off in ribbing. Sew side seams.
