SIZES
Directions are for child’s size 2. Changes for sizes 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 are in parentheses.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Chest – 22(24-26-28-30-31-33)".
Length – 17(19-1/4-21-3/4-23-1/4-24-1/2-25-3/4-27-1/4)".

MATERIALS
BERROCO SENSUWOOL TWEED (50 grs) 6(6-7-8-9-10-11) balls #7655 Cool Red.
24" length circular knitting needle, size 7 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
Straight knitting needles, size 5
Two double pointed needles size 5 (dpn).

GAUGE
6 sts = 1"; 7 rows = 1" in k6, p4 rib with size 7 needles.
29 sts = 4"; 8 rows = 1" in k1, p1 rib (slightly stretched) with size 5 needles.
31 sts = 4"; 8 rows = 1" in k1, p1 rib (unstretched) with size 5 needles.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGES.

SKIRT (Knit in the round)
With circular needle, cast on 200(220-240-260-280-290-310) sts. Join, taking care not to twist sts on needle. Mark for beg of round and carry marker up (this marks side seam).
Round 1: * K6, p4, rep from * around. Rep this round for 10(12-14-15-16-17-18)".
Drawstring Casing : Next Round: (K3, k2tog) 40(44-32-36-40-26-30) times,(k2, k2tog) 0(0-20-20-20-40-40) times. Continue in St st (k every round) on remaining 160(176-188-204-220-224-240) sts for -1/2".
Drawstring Eyelet Rnd: *K4(5-5-5-5-5-4), yo, k2tog, [k8(9-10-8-9-9-8), yo, k2tog] 3(3-3-4-4-4-5) times, k8(8-8-8-8-10-8), [yo, k2tog, k8(9-10-8-9-9-8)] 3(3-3-4-4-4-5) times, yo, k2tog, k4(5-5-5-5-5-4), rep from * once more. Continue in St st until casing measures 1". Change to straight needles.
Divide for Front and Back Bodice: Next Row (RS): (K1, p1) 39(43-46-50-54-55-59) times, k2tog, place remaining 80(88-94-102-110-112-120) sts on a holder for front. Continue on remaining 79(87-93-101-109-111-119) sts on needle for back and work in k1, p1 rib for 1 row.
Shape Armhole: Bind off 0(0-0-0-2-2-2) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side on next row, then every other row 7(7-8-8-7-7-8) times more. Work even on remaining 63(71-75-83-89-91-97) sts until armhole measures 3-1/2(3-3/4-4-1/4-4-3/4-4-1/2-4-3/4-5-1/4)".
Shape Back Neck: Next row (RS): Work 20(23-25-29-31-31-33) sts, join 2nd ball of yarn and bind off center 23(25-25-25-27-29-31) sts, work to end. Work both sides at once, until armhole measures 5-1/2(5-3/4-6-1-4-6-3/4-7-7-1/4-7-3/4)".
Shape Shoulder: Bind off at each shoulder edge 10(11-12-14-15-15-16) sts once, then 10(12-13-15-16-16-17) sts once.

FRONT BODICE
Work same as back bodice until armholes measure 1(1-1-1/2-2-2-2-1/4-2-1/2)", end on WS.
Shape Neck: Next Row (RS): Continue armhole shaping, bind off center st and working both sides at once, dec 1 st at each neck edge every other row 6(7-7-7-8-10-11) times, every 4th row 5(5-5-5-5-4-4) times. Work even until same length as back shoulders. Shape shoulders same as back.

FINISHING
Block to measurements with a damp cloth and hot steam iron. Sew shoulder seams.
I-cord: With size 5 dpn, cast on 2 sts and work I-cord as follows:
*Next Row (RS): K2, do not turn work. Slide sts to beg of needle to work next row from RS. Rep from * until cord measures 38(40-42-46-48-49-51)" long. Bind off. With tapestry needle, thread I-cord through eyelet, beg and end at center front. Sew both ends of cord tog to make a continuous cord.
Note: This will keep the cord from being pulled out and lost.
