BERROCO CHINCHILLA (50 grs), 9(10-11-12); [7(8-9-10)] balls #5606 Wall St. Navy (MC).
BERROCO SENSUWOOL (50 grs), 3(3-3-4); [3(3-3-4)] balls #6606 Wall St. Navy (A), and 1 ball #6657 Oyster (B).
Straight knitting needles, sizes 7 and 8 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
Two double pointed needles size 4 (dpn).
GAUGE
7 sts = 2"; 5 rows = 1" in St st using MC with size 8 needles.
21 sts = 4"; 7 rows = 1" in St st using A with size 7 needles.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.
BACK
With size 7 needles and A, cast on 102 (110-118-126) sts. Beg with a p row, work in St st for 7 rows. Join B and k 3 rows for turning ridge. Cut B and continue in St st with A for 7 rows more. Change to size 8 needles and MC.
Dec Row (RS): (K1, k2tog])34(36-38-42) times, for size Medium only: end k2; for size Large only: end (k2tog) twice. Continue in St st on remaining 68(74-78-84) sts until piece measures 24-1/2(25-25-1/2-26)"; [19-1/2(20-20-1/2-21)"] above turning ridge. Bind off all sts.
FRONT
With size 7 needles and A, cast on 102 (110-118-126) sts. Beg with a p row, work in St st for 7 rows. Join B and k 3 rows for turning ridge. Cut B and continue in St st with A for 3 rows more.
Drawstring Eyelet Row (RS): K47(51-55-59), yo, k2tog, k4, k2tog, yo, k47(51-55-59). Work even for 3 rows more. Change to size 8 needles and MC. Work Dec Row same as back. Continue in St st on remaining 68(74-78-84) sts until piece measures 21-1/2(22-22-1/2-23)"; [16-1/2(17-17-1/2-18)"] above turning ridge, end on WS.
Shape Neck: Next Row (RS): Work 27(30-32-35) sts, join 2nd ball and bind off center 14 sts, work to end. Working both sides at once, bind off at each neck edge 3 sts once, 2 sts twice, then dec 1 st twice. Work even until same length as back. Bind off remaining 18(21-23-26) sts each side for shoulders.
SLEEVES
With size 7 needles and B, cast on 65(67-67-69) sts and work in K1, P1 Rib for 1 row. Change to A and continue rib until piece measures 4" from beg, end on WS. Change to size 8 needles and MC. K next row on RS, dec 27(27-27-28) sts evenly spaced across. Continue in St st on remaining 38(40-40-41) sts, inc 1 st each side every 10th(8th-6th-6th) row 7(4-4-8) times, every 0(10th-8th-8th) row 0(4-6-3) times. Work even on 52(56-60-63) sts until piece measures 19-1/2" from beg. Bind off all sts.
HOOD
Left Half: With size 8 needles and MC, cast on 41 sts for neck edge and work in St st for 13". For back edge, bind off from beg of RS rows 8 sts 4 times, 9 sts once.
Right Half: Work same as left half, reversing shaping by binding off sts at beg of WS rows.
POCKET
With size 8 needles and MC, cast on 42 sts and work in St st for 4". Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 4 rows, then 2 sts at beg of next 4 rows. Work even on remaining 22 sts until piece measures 10" from beg. Bind off.
Edging: With size 7 needles and A, pick up and k45 sts along curved edges of pocket opening. Work in K1, P1 rib for 5 rows. Bind off knitwise. Baste pocket 3-1/2" above turning ridge of hem and centered on front. Sew cast-on edge, bound-off edge and sides of pocket to front at top of ribbing.
FINISHING
Steam pieces lightly. Sew shoulder seams. Sew two halves of hood tog along back seam. With RS facing, size 7 needles and A, pick up and k 150 sts evenly around hood opening. Beg with a p row, work in St st for 7 rows. Join B and k 3 rows for turning ridge. Cut B and continue in St st with A for 7 rows more. Bind off. Fold facing to WS at turning ridge and sew bound-off edge in place. Sew hood around neck edge.
Place markers 7-1/2(8-8-1/2-9)" down from shoulder seams on front and back. Sew top of sleeves between markers. Sew side and sleeve seams. Fold body and sleeve casings to WS at turning ridge and sew in place.
I-cord: With size 4 dpn and A, cast on 2 sts and work I-cord as follows:
*Next Row (RS): K2, do not turn work. Slide sts to beg of needle to work next row from RS. Rep from * until cord measures 54" for lower edge drawstring (Do not weave in end. You may want to adjust the length). Thread cord through eyelets at front. Make a 2nd cord in same way for hood drawstring and thread through casing. To finish, weave in ends and knot.
