MATERIALS
BERROCO METALLIC FX (25 grs), 26(28-30-32) balls #1005 Copper/Black.
Straight knitting needles, sizes 7 and 8 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
16" length circular knitting needles, sizes 7 and 8

GAUGE
11 sts = 2"; 8 rows = 1" in St st with larger needles.

BACK
With smaller straight needles, cast on 98(106-114-122) sts. Work in k2, p2 rib for 1". Change to larger straight needles and work in St st for 90(60-90-60) rows. Dec 1 st each side on next row. Work 89(59-89-59) rows even. Dec 1 st each side on next row. Work 0(59-0-59) rows even. Dec 0(1-0-1) st each side on next row. Work even on remaining 94(100-110-116) sts until piece measures 38(38-37-1/2-37-1/2)" from beg, end on WS.
Shape Armholes: Bind off 4 sts at beg of the next 2(2-4-4) rows, then 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows.
Dec Row 1 (RS): K2, k3tog, k to last 5 sts, SK2P, k2. Work 1 row even. Rep last 2 rows 0(1-1-1) time more.
Dec Row 2 (RS): K2, k2tog, k to last 4 sts, SKP, k2. Work 1 row even. Rep last 2 rows 3(3-2-4) times more. Work even on remaining 68(70-74-76) sts until armholes measure 4-1/2(5-5-1/2-6)". Inc 1 st each side on next row, then every 6th row twice more. Work even on 74(76-80-82) sts until armholes measure 7(7-1/2-8-8-1/2)", end on WS.
Shape Shoulders and Neck: Bind off 5(6-5-6) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 5(5-6-6) sts at beg of next 6 rows. AT THE SAME TIME, when armhole measures 7-1/2(8-8-1/2-9)", bind off center 30 sts for neck and, working both sides at once, bind off 2 sts at each neck edge once.

FRONT
Work same as back to armhole shaping.
Shape Armholes: Bind off 5(5-5-6) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, 4 sts at beg of next 0(0-2-0) rows, then 3 sts at beg of next 2(2-2-4) rows. [Work Dec Row 1 same as for back. Work 1 row even] 1(2-2-3) times. [Work Dec Row 2 same as for back. Work 1 row even] 5(5-4-4) times. Work even on remaining 64(66-70-72) sts until armholes measure 4-1/2(5-5-1/2-6)". Inc 1 st each side on next row, then [every 4th row once, every 2nd row once] 2 times. AT THE SAME TIME, when armholes measure 5(5-1/2-6-6-1/2)", end on WS.
Shape Neck and Shoulders: Bind off center 10 sts for neck and, working both sides at once, bind off 3 sts at each neck edge once, 2 sts twice, then dec 1 st every other row 3 times, and every 4th row twice. AT THE SAME TIME, when same length as back to shoulders, shape shoulders same as for back.

SLEEVES
With smaller straight needles, cast on 46(50-50-54) sts. Work in k2, p2 rib for 2". Change to larger straight needles and work in St st, inc 1 st each side every 8th row 5(5-12-9) times, then every 10th(10th-6th-6th) row 8(8-4-8) times. Work even on 72(76-82-88) sts until piece measures 18" from beg, end on WS.
Shape Cap: Bind off 3 sts at beg of the next 4 rows. Work Dec Row 1 same as for back. Work 1 row even] 2(2-2-3) times. [Work Dec Row 2 same as for back. Work 1 row even] 11(13-15-16) times. [Work Dec Row 2. Work 3 rows even] twice. [Work Dec Row 1. Work 1 row even] twice. Bind off 3(3-4-4) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Bind off remaining 12 sts.

FINISHING
Steam pieces. Sew shoulder seams.
Neckband: With RS facing, using smaller circular needle, pick up and k96 sts evenly around neck edge. Mark for beg of round and carry marker up, Work in k2, p2 rib for 4". Change to larger circular needle and work rib for 4" more. Bind off loosely in rib.
Sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams.

MACHINE-KNITTED VERSION

MATERIALS

BERROCO METALLIC FX (25 grs), 26(28-30-32) balls #1005 Copper/Black.
6.5 mm mid-gauge machine with ribber; ribs can be knit by hand.

GAUGE
11 sts = 2"; 8 rows = 1" with stitch size 5.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

NOTE 1
Armhole and neckline 1 st decs/incs should be made 2 sts from edge for full fashion shaping details. Use 3 prong tool for decs and 2 prong tool for incs.

NOTE 2
Shoulders can be shaped with short rows rather than binding off as given in directions. Short row shoulders should be scrapped off and joined by rehanging on the machine and binding off front and back sts together.

BACK
Cast on 98(106-114-122) sts. Work in k2, p2 rib to RC 10. RC 000. Transfer all sts to main bed to continue in St st, AT THE SAME TIME, dec 1 st each side every 90(60-90-60) rows 2(3-2-3) times. Knit straight on remaining 94(100-110-116) sts to RC 296(296-292-292). Reset RC 000.
Shape Armholes: Bind off 4 sts at beg of the next 2(2-4-4) rows, 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows, 2 sts at beg of next 2(4-4-4) rows, dec 1 st each side every 2nd row 4(4-3-5) times — 68(70-74-76) sts. Knit straight to RC 38(42-46-50). Inc 1 st each side on next row, then every 6th row twice more. Knit straight on 74(76-80-82) sts to RC 56(60-64-68).
Shape Shoulders and Neck: Bind off 5(6-5-6) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, 5(5-6-6) sts at beg of next 6 rows, AT THE SAME TIME, at RC 60(64-68-72), shape neck as follows: With carriage on right (COR) and set to hold needles in holding position, hold center 30 needles and all needles to the left of them. Knit, wrap, knit back (KWK). Hold 2 more needles at neck edge and KWK. Rep for 2nd side. Remove neck sts on scrap knitting or bind off.

FRONT
Work same as back to armhole shaping. Reset RC 000.
Shape Armholes: Bind off 5(5-5-6) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, 4 sts at beg of next 0(0-2-0) rows, 3 sts at beg of next 2(2-2-4) rows, 2 sts at beg of next 2(4-4-6) rows, dec 1 st each side every 2nd row 5(5-4-4) times. Knit straight on remaining 64(66-70-72) sts to RC 38(42-46-50). Inc 1 st each side on next row, then [every 4th row once, every 2nd row once] 2 times, AT THE SAME TIME, at RC 40(44-48-52), shape neck as follows:
Shape Neck and Shoulders: With COR and set to hold needles in holding position, hold center 10 needles and all needles to the left of them. KWK. Whenever COR, hold at neck edge 3 sts once, 2 sts twice, KWK after each. Then full fashion dec 1 st every other row 3 times, every 4th row twice, AT THE SAME TIME, when same length as back to shoulder, shape shoulder same as back. Rep for 2nd side. Remove neck sts on scrap knitting or bind off.

SLEEVES
Cast on 46(50-50-54) sts. Work in k2, p2 rib to RC 16. RC 000. Transfer all sts to main bed to continue in St st, AT THE SAME TIME, inc 1 st each side every 8th row 5(5-12-9) times, every 10th(10th-6th-6th) row 8(8-4-8) times. Knit straight on 72(76-82-88) sts to RC 128.
Shape Cap: Bind off 3 sts at beg of the next 4 rows, 2 sts at beg of next 4(4-4-6) rows, dec 1 st each side every 2nd row 11(13-15-16) times, every 4th row twice. Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 4 rows, 3(3-4-4) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Bind off remaining 12 sts.

FINISHING
Steam pieces. Sew one shoulder seam.
Neckband: With WS facing, rehang neck edge on machine as follows: pick up 12 sts along left front neck edge, 32 sts along across front neck edge, 12 sts along right front neck edge, 6 sts along right back neck edge, 28 sts across back neck edge and 6 sts along left back neck edge — 96 sts. Transfer sts to ribber for k2, p2 rib. Knit 30 rows with stitch size 2/2; increase the size by one dot for the next 10 rows, 1 dot for next 10 and end with 10 rows size 3/3. Bind off loosely by catching yarn around 2 sinker posts. Sew second shoulder and neckband seam. Sew sleeve seams and side seams of dress. Set sleeve into armhole, matching underarm seams and shoulders, with slip crochet. Work in all ends and give final, light pressing.
