Directions are for women’s size X Small. Changes for sizes Small, Medium, Large and X Large are in parentheses.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Bust (buttoned) - 40(42-44-46-50)".
Length – 19(20-21-22-23)".

BERROCO MOHAIR CLASSIC (43 grs), 7(7-8-8-9) balls #A7743 (A).
BERROCO METALLIC FX (25 grs), 9(9-10-10-11) hanks #1002 Silver (B).
Straight knitting needles, sizes 9 and 10-1/2 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
5 -1/2" La Mode buttons #48103.
2 St Holders.

GAUGE
14 sts = 4"; 18 rows = 4" in St st on size 10-1/2 needles with A and B worked tog.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

NOTE
A and B are worked tog throughout.

BACK
With smaller needles, using A and B held tog, cast on 81(85-89-93-99) sts.
Row 1 (RS): K1, * P1, k1, rep from * across.
Row 2: P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across. Rep these 2 rows for 1-1/2", end on RS. P the next row, dec 11(11-12-12-12) sts evenly spaced across – 70(74-77-81-87) sts. Change to larger needles and work even in St st until piece measures 9-1/2(10-10-1/2-11-1/2-12)" from beg, end on WS.
Shape Armholes: Bind off 3 sts at beg of the next 2 rows, 2 sts at beg of the next 2(4-4-4-4) rows, then dec 1 st each side every RS row 4(3-3-4-3) times – 52(54-57-59-67) sts. Work even until armholes measure 8-1/2(9-9-1/2-9-1/2-10)", end on WS.
Shape Shoulders and Neck: Bind off 7(8-8-9-10) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 8(8-9-9-11) sts at beg of the next 2 rows. Bind off remaining 22(22-23-23-25) sts for neck.

LEFT FRONT
With smaller needles, using A and B held tog, cast on 45(47-49-51-55) sts. Work in ribbing same as for back for 1-1/2", end on RS.
Next Row (WS): Work 6 sts, sl these sts onto holder for frontband, p to end, dec 6(6-6-6-7) sts evenly spaced across – 33(35-37-39-42) sts. Change to larger needles. Work even in St st until piece measures 9-1/2(10-10-1/2-11-1/2-12)", end on WS.
Shape Armhole: Bind off 3 sts at beg of the next row, work 1 row even. Bind off 2 sts at armhole edge every RS row 1(2-2-2-2) times, then dec 1 st at armhole edge every RS row 4(3-3-4-3) times – 24(25-27-28-32) sts. Work even until armhole measures 7(7-1/2- 8-8-8-1/2)", end on RS.
Shape Neck: Bind off 3(3-4-4-5) sts at beg of the next row, work 1 row even. Bind off 2 sts at neck edge twice, then dec 1 st at neck edge every WS row twice. AT THE SAME TIME, when armhole measures 8-1/2(9-9-1/2-9-1/2-10)", shape shoulder same as for back.

RIGHT FRONT
Work same as for left front until piece measures -1/2", end on WS.
Buttonhole: K1, p1, k2 tog, yo, work to end. Work even in ribbing until piece measures 1-1/2" from beg, end on RS.
Next Row (WS): Dec 6(6-6-6-7) sts evenly spaced across first 39(41-43-45-49) sts, sl remaining 6 sts onto holder for frontband. Complete to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping.

SLEEVES
With smaller needles, using A and B held tog, cast on 31(31-33-33-35) sts. Work in ribbing same as for back for 1-1/2", end on RS. P the next row, dec 3 sts evenly spaced across – 28(28-30-30-32) sts. Change to larger needles and work in St st, inc 1 st each side every 4th row 4(5-5-5-5) times, then every 6th row 8 times – 52(54-56-56-58) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 17-1/2(18-18-18-18)" from beg, end on WS.
Shape Cap: Bind off 3 sts at beg of the next 2 rows, 2 sts at beg of the next 6 rows, then dec 1 st each side of every other row 3(4-5-5-6) times. Bind off 4 sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 5 sts at beg of the next 2 rows. Bind off remaining 10 sts.

FINISHING
Steam pieces lightly.
Left Frontband: With RS facing, sl 6 sts from holder to smaller needle. Join A and B and inc 1, work in ribbing to end – 7 sts.
Next Row (WS): P1, (k1, p1) 3 times. Work even in ribbing as established until frontband, when slightly stretched, reaches to beg of neck shaping, dec 1 st at end of last row, end on WS. Sl 6 sts onto holder. Sew frontband to front edge of sweater. Mark position of 4 buttons evenly spaced along frontband, the first 3/4" up from lower edge and the last 4(4-1/4-4-1/2-4-3/4-5)" below upper edge (the 5th buttonhole will be made in neckband).
Right Frontband: With WS facing, sl 6 sts from holder to smaller needle. Join A and B, inc 1, work in ribbing to end – 7 sts. Complete to correspond to left frontband, making 3 more buttonholes opposite markers on left frontband and decreasing 1 st at beg of last row, end on RS. Sew frontband to front edge of sweater. Sew shoulder seams.
Neckband: With RS facing, sl 6 sts from right front holder to smaller needle, join A and B, pick up and k15 sts along right front neck edge, 21(21-23-23-25) sts across back neck edge, 15 sts along left front neck edge, then work in ribbing across 6 sts from left front holder – 63(63-65-65-67) sts. Beg with Row 2, work in ribbing same as for back for 3/4", end on WS. Make buttonhole on next row, then work even in ribbing until neckband measures 1-1/2". Bind off all sts in ribbing. Sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew on buttons.
