Beg Box Pat: Row 1 (WS): P2 (edge sts), work Box Pat to last 2 sts, p2 (edge sts). Continue in pats as established, keeping 2 sts each side of pat in St st, through pat row 16. Change to B and work pat rows 17 and 18. Then work rows 1-16 of pat. Change to MC and work rows 17 and 18. Then work rows 1-16 of pat. Change to A and work rows 17 and 18. Then work rows 1-16 of pat. Change to C and work rows 17 and 18. Then work rows 1-16 of pat. Change to B and k1 row, p1 row. Change to MC and p next row on WS, dec 13(10-14-16-9-11) sts evenly spaced across. Piece should measures approximately 12" from beg and there are 189(201-215-231-247-263) sts. Continue in St st with MC for 2", end on RS.
Divide for Fronts and Back: Next Row (WS): P 42(45-49-53-57-61) and place on holder for left front, bind off 10 sts, p until there are 85(91-97-105-113-121) sts from last bound-off st and place on holder for back, bind off 10 sts, p remaining 42(45-49-53-57-61) sts for right front. Continue on right front sts only as follows:
Shape Armhole: Next Row (RS): K to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2. P 1 row. Rep last 2 rows 5 (5-5-7-7-8) times more. Work even in St st on remaining 36(39-43-45-49-52) sts until armhole measures 5(5-1/2-6-6-1/2-7-7-1/2)", end on WS.
Shape Neck and Shoulder: Next Row (RS): Bind off 10(10-11-10-10-10) sts, work to end. Continue to bind off from neck edge 2 sts 5(5-5-6-6-6) times. When armhole measures 7(7-1/2-8-8-1/2-9-9-1/2)", bind off from beg of WS rows for shoulder 5(6-7-8-9-10) sts twice, 6(7-8-7-9-10) sts once.
BACK
With WS facing, sl 85(91-97-105-113-121) sts for back from holder to size 7 needle and work as follows:
Next Row (RS): K2, ssk, k to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2. P 1 row. Rep last 2 rows 5 (5-5-7-7-8) times more. Work even in St st on remaining 73(79-85-89-97-103) sts until armholes measure 7(7-1/2-8-8-1/2-9-9-1/2)", end on WS.
Shape Neck and Shoulders: Next Row (RS): Work shoulder decs each side same as left front, AT THE SAME TIME, bind off center 21(21-21-23-23-23) sts for neck and working both sides at once, bind off 5 sts from each neck edge twice.
LEFT FRONT
With WS facing, sl 42(45-49-53-57-61) sts for left front from holder to size 7 needle and work to correspond to right front, reversing all shaping.
SLEEVES
With smaller straight needles and MC, cast on 72(76-76-76-80-80) sts.
Begin Rib Pat: Next Row (RS): K0(0-0-0-2-2), p0(2-2-2-2-2), k2, *p1, (k1, p1) twice, k2; rep from * 8 times more, p1, (k1, p1) twice, k2, p0(2-2-2-2-2), k0(0-0-0-2-2).
Next Row: K the knit sts and p the purl sts. Rep last 2 rows for rib pat until piece measures 3/4" from beg, end on RS. Change to larger needles. P next row on WS, dec 2 sts. Work in St st on 70(74-74-74-78-78) sts for 10(8-4-4-4-4) rows.
Next Inc Row (RS): K3, M1, work to last 3 sts, M1, k3. Continue to rep Inc Row every 10th(8th-4th-4th-4th-4th) row 1(2-1-2-2-5) times more, then every 6th row 0(0-3-3-3-1) times. Work even on 74(80-84-86-90-92) sts until piece measures 5(5-1/2-5-1/2-6-6-6)" from beg, end on WS.
Shape Cap: Next Row: Bind off 6(6-6-5-6-5) sts at beg of next 2 rows.
Next Row (RS): K2, ssk, work to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2. P 1 row. Rep last 2 rows 13(14-16-18-19-21) times more. Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 0(2-2-2-2-2) rows, 3 sts at beg of next 4 rows. Bind off remaining 22 sts.
FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams.
Neckband: With RS facing, smaller needles and MC, pick up and k104(104-104-108-108-108) sts evenly around neck edge.
Begin Rib Pat: Next Row (WS): P0(0-0-2-2-2), k2, p2, * k1, (p1, k1) twice, p2, rep from * 12 times more, k1, (p1, k1) twice, p2, k2, p0(0-0-2-2-2).
Next Row: K the knit sts and p the purl sts. Rep last 2 rows for rib pat until piece measures 3/4" from beg. Bind off in rib.
Left Frontband: With smaller needles and MC, beg at top of left front neckband, pick up and k 40(43-46-49-52-55) sts to top of Box Pat, then pick up and k 65 sts evenly to lower edge. K 5 rows on 105(108-111-114-117-120) sts. Bind off. Place markers on band above Box Pat for 3 buttons, the first one just above Box Pat, the last one 1/2" from top edge, and one other spaced evenly between.
Right Frontband: With smaller needles and MC, beg at lower edge of right front, pick up and k 65 sts sts to end of Box Pat, place marker, then pick up and k 40(43-46-49-52-55) sts to top of neckband. K 1 row on WS. Work buttonholes on next row opposite markers, by binding off 3 sts for each buttonhole. On next row, cast on 3 sts over bound-off sts. K 2 rows more. Bind off.
Set in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew on buttons.
