Directions are for children’s size 1. Changes for sizes 2, 4 and 6 are in parentheses.

 

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Chest (buttoned) – 26(28-30-32)".
Length – 12-1/2(13-1/2-14-1/2-16)".

 

MATERIALS
BERROCO COTTON TWIST (50 grs), 7(8-9-10) hanks #8374 Crème Fraiche (MC) for Sweater, 2 hanks for Hat.
BERROCO JENNY (50 grs), 1(1-2-2) balls #2245 Hot Mix (CC) for Sweater, 1 ball for Hat.
Straight knitting needles, sizes 6 and 8 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
4 3/4" buttons.
2 St Holders.

 

GAUGE
19 sts = 4"; 13 rows = 2’ in Bobble Pat on size 8 needles.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

 

NOTE 1
The body of this garment is knit side to side.

NOTE 2
It is extremely important to achieve BOTH st and row gauge for your garment to be the correct size.

NOTE 3
Yarn not in use may be carried LOOSELY along side of work.

 

STITCH GLOSSARY
MB

K in front, back, front, back and front of next st (5 sts made in 1). Bring yarn to front of work and sl these 5 sts back to LH needle. Bring yarn to back of work and k2 tog, k1, k2 tog. Pass first 2 sts over 3rd st – 1 st remains on RH needle.

BOBBLE PAT
Row 1 (RS): With CC, knit.
Row 2: With CC, * k5, MB, rep from * across, end k5.
Rows 3-14: With MC, work in St st.
Row 15: With CC, knit.
Row 16: With CC, k2, * MB, k5, rep from * across, end MB, k2.
Rows 17-28: With MC, work in St st.
Rep these 28 rows for Bobble Pat.

 

BACK
With larger needles, using MC, cast on 53(59-65-71) sts. Work even in St st for 10(12-2-4) rows, end on WS. Work even in Bobble Pat for 16(30-30-44) rows, end on Row 16(2-2-16). With MC, work even in St st for 32(8-34-8) rows, end on WS. Beg with Row 15(1-1-15), work even in Bobble Pat for 16(30-30-44) rows, end on Row 2. With MC, work even in St st for 10(12-2-4) rows, end on WS. Piece should measure approximately 13(14-15-16)"
from beg. Bind off all sts.

 

LEFT FRONT
Work same as for back until a total of 26(30-32-36) rows have been completed, end on Row 16(18-2-4)) of Bobble Pat.
Shape Neck: Still working in Bobble Pat, bind off 5 sts at beg of the next row. Dec 1 st at neck edge every RS row 5 times. Work even on 43(49-55-61) sts until piece measures approximately 6(6-1/2-7-7-1/2)" from beg, end on Row 2(2-16-16) of Bobble Pat. Sl sts onto holder for frontband.

 

RIGHT FRONT
Work same as for left front, shaping neck on WS rows instead of RS rows.

 

SLEEVES
With smaller needles, using MC, cast on 29(31-31-33) sts. Work even in Garter St for 1", inc 6(4-4-8) sts evenly spaced across last row – 35(35-35-41) sts. Change to larger needles and work in Bobble Pat, inc 1 st each side every 6th row 0(3-11-4) times, every 8th row 4(5-0-6) times, then every 10th row 2(0-0-0) times. Work even on 47(51-57-61) sts until piece measures approximately 10(11-12-13)" from beg, end on Row 2(10-16-22) of Bobble Pat. Bind off all sts with MC.

 

FINISHING
Steam pieces lightly. Sew shoulder seams. Measure down 5(5-1/2-6-6-1/2)" from shoulder seams on back and fronts and mark for armholes. Sew in sleeves between markers. Sew side and sleeve seams.
Neckband: With RS facing, using smaller needles and MC, beg at right front edge, pick up and k17(17-18-18) sts along right front neck edge, 26(26-28-28) sts across back neck edge and 17(17-18-18) sts along left front neck edge – 60(60-64-64) sts. Work even in Garter St for 1", end on RS. Bind off all sts knitwise.
Bottom band: With RS facing, using smaller needles and MC, beg at left front edge, pick up and k28(30-33-35) sts along bottom edge of left front, 61(66-71-76) sts along bottom edge of back and 28(30-33-35) sts along bottom edge of right front – 117(126-137-146) sts. Complete same as for neckband.
Left Frontband: With RS facing, using smaller needles and MC, beg at left front neck edge, pick up and k4 sts along edge of neckband, k43(49-55-61) sts from holder, then pick up and k4 sts along edge of bottom band – 51(57-63-69) sts. Complete same as for neckband.
Right Frontband: Beg at lower edge of right front, work same as for left frontband for 3
rows, end on WS.
Buttonhole Row (RS): K4, yo, k2 tog, * k until there are 12(14-16-18) sts on RH needle, yo, k2 tog, rep from * twice more, k to end. Complete to correspond to left frontband. Sew on buttons.

HAT (One size fits most)
With smaller needles, using MC, cast on 89 sts. Work even in Garter St for 1". Change to larger needles and CC and work Rows 1 and 2 of Bobble Pat. Change to MC and work even in St st until piece measures 6" from beg, end on WS.
Shape Top: Row 1: * K5, k2 tog, rep from * across, end k5 – 77 sts.
Row 2 and all WS rows: Purl.
Row 3: * K4, k2 tog, rep from * across, end k5 – 65 sts.
Row 5: * K3, k2 tog, rep from * across, end k5 – 53 sts.
Row 7: * K2, k2 tog, rep from * across, end k5 – 41 sts.
Row 9: * K1, k2 tog, rep from * across, end k5 – 29 sts.
Row 11: K2 tog across, end k1 – 15 sts. Break off yarn, leaving an end for sewing. Pull through remaining sts and draw up tightly. Sew back seam.
Top Loop: With smaller needles, using CC, cast on 8 sts. Work even in St st for 1-1/2". Bind off all sts. Holding cast-on and bound-off edges tog, sew to top of hat forming a loop.
