SIZES
Directions are for children’s size 2. Changes for sizes 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 are in parentheses.

 

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Chest (buttoned) – 26(28-30-32-33-34)".
Length – 13-1/2(14-1/2-15-1/2-16-1/2-17-1/2-18-1/2)".

 

MATERIALS
BERROCO PRONTO (50 grs), 1(1-2-2-2-2) balls #4434 Black (A), 4(4-5-6-7-8) balls #4400 White (B), 2(2-2-2-3-3) balls #4409 Lolita Lime (C) and 1(1-2-2-2-2) balls each #4440 Magenta (D) and #4803 Sunflower (E).
Straight knitting needles, sizes 9 and 10-1/2 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
6 1" JHB buttons, 2 each #45164 Peoria Pink, #45170 Peoria White and #45166 Peoria Yellow.

 

GAUGE
13 sts = 4"; 22 rows = 4" in Stripe Pat on size 10-1/2 needles.
4 sts = 1"; 5 rows = 1" in Striped Rib on size 9 needles.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

 

NOTE
Colors not in use may be carried loosely up side of work.

 

STRIPED RIB
Row 1 (WS): With A, p1, * k1, p1, rep from * across.
Row 2: With B, k1, * p1, k1, rep from * across.
Row 3: With B, rep Row 1.
Rows 4 and 5: With A, rep Rows 2 and 3.
These 5 rows form Striped Rib.

 

STRIPE PAT
Row 1 (RS): With B, knit.
Row 2: With B, purl.
Rows 3 and 4: With C, knit.
Rows 5 and 6: Rep Rows 1 and 2.
Rows 7 and 8: With D, knit.
Rows 9 and 10: Rep Rows 1 and 2.
Rows 11 and 12: With E, knit.
Rep these 12 rows for Stripe Pat.

 

BACK
With smaller needles, using A, cast on 51(55-57-61-63-65) sts. Work 5 rows in Striped Rib, dec 9 sts evenly spaced across last row, end on WS – 42(46-48-52-54-56) sts. Change to larger needles and work even in Stripe Pat until piece measures 8-1/2(9-9-1/2-10-10-1/2-11)" from beg, end on WS. Mark beg and end of last row for beg of armholes. Work even until armholes measure 5(5-1/2-6-6-1/2-7-7-1/2)", end on WS. Bind off all sts for shoulders and back neck.

 

LEFT FRONT
With smaller needles, using A, cast on 23(25-27-29-29-31) sts. Work 5 rows in Striped Rib, dec 4(4-4-5-4-4) sts evenly spaced across last row, end on WS – 19(21-23-24-25-27) sts. Change to larger needles and work even in Stripe Pat until piece measures 8-1/2(9-9-1/2-10-10-1/2-11)" from beg, end on WS. Mark end of last row for beg of armhole. Work even until armhole measures 3(3-1/2-4-4-1/2-5-5-1/2)", end on WS.
Shape Neck (RS): Bind off 2(3-4-4-4-5) sts at beg of the next row, then dec 1 st at neck edge EVERY row 5 times – 12(13-14-15-16-17) sts. Work even until armhole measures 5(5-1/2-6-6-1/2-7-7-1/2)", end on WS. Bind off all sts for shoulder.

 

RIGHT FRONT
Work to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping.

 

SLEEVES
With smaller needles, using A, cast on 25(27-27-29-29-31) sts. Work 5 rows in Striped Rib, dec 4 sts evenly spaced across last row, end on WS – 21(23-23-25-25-27) sts. Change to larger needles and work in Stripe Pat, inc 1 st each side every6th row 0(0-2-3-3-0) times, every 8th row 4(1-6-6-7-11) times, then every 10th row 2(5-0-0-0-0) times – 33(35-39-43-45-49) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 11-1/2(12-1/2-13-1/2-14-15-1/2-18)" from beg, end on WS. Bind off all sts loosely.

 

FINISHING
Steam pieces lightly. Sew shoulder seams.
Neckband: With RS facing, using smaller needles and A, pick up and k15(16-16-17-17-17) sts along right front neck edge, 19(21-21-23-23-23) sts across back neck edge and 15(16-16-17-17-17) sts along left front neck edge – 49(53-53-57-57-57) sts.
Next Row (WS): With A, p1, * k1, p1, rep from * across. Working in ribbing as established, work 2 rows B, then 1 row A, end on RS. Bind off all sts in ribbing with A.
Left Frontband: With RS facing, using smaller needles and A, beg at top of neckband, pick up and k57(61-63-67-69-73) sts evenly spaced along left front edge. Work in ribbing same as for neckband.
Right Frontband: Beg at lower edge, work same as for left frontband until second row of A has been completed, end on WS.
Buttonholes (RS): With B, rib 3(2-3-3-4-3) sts, yo, k2 tog, * rib 8(9-9-10-10-11) sts, yo, k2 tog, rep from * 4 times more, rib to end. Complete same as for left frontband. Sew in sleeves between markers. Sew side and sleeve seams, matching stripes. Sew on buttons.
