MATERIALS
BERROCO COTTON TWIST (50 grs), 4(4-5-6-7-7) hanks #8388 Purple Passion (MC), 2(2-2-2-3-3) hanks #8306 California Turquoise (A), 1(2-2-2-2-3) hanks #8348 Orange Zinnea (B) and 1(1-1-2-2-2) hanks each #8317 Sunshine Yellow (C) and #8300 Lolita Lime (D).
Straight knitting needles, sizes 6 and 8 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
16" length circular knitting needle, size 6.
GAUGE
19 sts = 4"; 26 rows = 4" in St st on size 8 needles.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.
NOTE 1
Use a separate hank of yarn for each color section of chart. DO NOT carry yarn across.
NOTE 2
When changing colors, always hold color to the left and pick up new color from underneath. This twists yarn so there are no holes.
BACK
With smaller straight needles, using MC, cast on 66(72-76-80-84-86) sts. Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 1-1/2". Change to larger needles and work even in St st, following chart, until 88(94-100-106-114-120) rows have been completed, end on WS. Piece should measure 15(16-17-18-19-20)" from beg. Bind off all sts for shoulders and back neck.
FRONT
Work same as for back until 74(80-86-92-100-106) rows of chart have been completed, end on WS. Piece should measure 13(14-15-16-17-18)" from beg.
Note: Work decs on left side of neck as k2 tog, k1. Work decs on right side of neck as k1, SKP.
Shape Neck: Work 25(27-29-31-32-33) sts, join another hank of yarn and bind off center 16(18-18-18-20-20) sts, work to end. Still following chart and working both sides at once, dec 1 st at each neck edge as in note every RS row 5 times. When 88(94-100-106-114-120) rows of chart have been completed, bind off 20(22-24-26-27-28) sts each side for shoulders. Measure down 5-3/4(6-6-1/2-7-7-1/4-7-1/2)" from each shoulder on back and front and mark for beg of armholes. Sew shoulder seams.
SLEEVES
With RS facing, using larger needles and MC, pick up and k54(56-62-66-68-72) sts evenly spaced between markers. Beg with a p row, work even in St st for 1", end on WS. Dec 1 st each side of next row, then every 6th row 4(7-3-6-10-12) times, then every 4th row 7(4-11-8-4-4) times 30(32-32-36-38-38) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 9-1/2(10-1/2-11-12-13-1/4-15)", end on WS. Change to smaller straight needles and work in k1, p1 ribbing for 1-1/2", end on WS. Bind off all sts in ribbing.
FINISHING
Steam pieces lightly. Sew side and sleeve seams.
Neckband: With RS facing, using circular needle and MC, beg at center of back neck edge, pick up and k13(14-14-14-15-15) sts to left shoulder seam, 16 sts along left front neck edge, 16(18-18-18-20-20) sts along center front neck edge, 16 sts along right front neck edge and 13(14-14-14-15-15) sts along remaining back neck edge 74(78-78-78-82-82) sts. Mark for beg of round and carry marker up. Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 2". Bind off all sts loosely in ribbing. Fold neckband in half to inside and sl st in place.
