SIZES
Directions are for child’s size 2. Changes for sizes 4, 6, 8 and 10 are in parentheses.

 

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Chest (buttoned) – 28(30-32-34-35)".
Length – 14(15-16-17-18)".

 

MATERIALS
BERROCO PRONTO (50 grs) 8(9-10-11-12) balls #4401 Cream (MC) for Sweater, 2 balls for Hat. 1 ball each #4803 Sunflower (A) and #4414 Elegant Green (B) for Sweater and Hat.
Straight knitting needles, sizes 9 and 10-1/2 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
Crochet hook, size 6.00 mm (J).
6 1" BERROCO buttons, 3 each #A334
Black and #A101 Vanilla for Sweater.
1 1" BERROCO button #A334 Black for Hat.
1 2" Safety Pin for Hat.

 

GAUGE
13 sts = 4"; 19 rows = 4" in St st with size 10-1/2 needles.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

 

NOTE
When measuring length of body and sleeves of this garment, flatten out rolled edges and measure from beg.

 

BACK
With size 10-1/2 needles and MC, cast on 46(50-53-56-58) sts. Work in St st until piece measures 8-1/2(9-9-1/2-10-10-1/2)" from beg, end on WS. Mark beg and end of last row for beg of armholes. Work even until armholes measures 5(5-1/2-6-6-1/2-7)", end on WS.
Shape Neck: Next Row (RS): K19(20-21-21-22), join another ball of yarn and bind off center 8(10-11-14-14) sts, k to end. Working both sides at once, bind off 3 sts from each neck edge once. Bind off remaining 16(17-18-18-19) sts each side for shoulders.

 

LEFT FRONT
With size 10-1/2 needles and MC, cast on 21(23-25-26-27) sts. Work in St st until piece measures 8-1/2(9-9-1/2-10-10-1/2)" from beg, end on WS. Mark end of last row for beg of armhole. Work even until armholes measure 3-1/2(4-4-1/2-5-5-1/2)", end on RS.
Shape Neck: Next Row (WS): Bind off 3(3-3-4-4) sts (neck edge), work to end. Continue to bind off from neck edge 2 sts 1(1-2-2-2) times, then dec 1 st every other row 0(1-0-0-0) times. Work even until same length as back. Bind off remaining 16(17-18-18-19) sts for shoulder.

 

RIGHT FRONT
Work to correspond to left front, reversing shaping.

 

SLEEVES
With size 10-1/2 needles and MC, cast on 22(22-23-24-25) sts. Work in St st, inc 1 st each side every 4th row 0(1-2-3-2) times, every 6th row 4(8-8-8-10) times, then every 8th row 3(0-0-0-0) times. Work even on 36(40-43-46-49) sts until piece measures 11(12-12-1/2-13-1/2-15)" from beg. Bind off all sts.

 

POCKETS (Make 2)
With size 10-1/2 needles and MC, cast on 13 sts. Work in St st for 4-1/2". Bind off.

 

FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams.
Left Frontband: With RS facing, using size 10-1/2 needles and MC, beg at start of neck shaping, pick up and k 38(41-44-47-50) sts evenly spaced along left front edge to 1/2" above cast-on edge. K 3 rows.
Buttonhole Row (RS): K 5(5-6-6-6), yo, k2tog, k 11(12-13-15-16), yo, k2tog, k 11(13-13-14-16), yo, k2tog, k 5(5-6-6-6). K 3 more rows. Bind off all sts.
Right Frontband: Beg 1/2"above cast-on edge of right front, pick up same number of sts as for left frontband, and k 7 rows.
Collar: With WS facing, using size 9 needles and MC, beg at center of left frontband, pick up and k 18(20-21-24-24) sts along left front neck, 21(23-24-27-27) sts along back neck and 18(20-21-24-24) sts along right front neck edge to center of right frontband—57(63-66-75-75) sts. Beg with a p row, work even in St st, keeping first and last 3 sts in garter st, for 2", end on k row. K 4 rows. Bind off all sts loosely. Pin 1 pocket to center of each front with cast-on edge of pocket 1/2" above cast-on edge of front. Sl st sides and bottom, allowing top edge to roll back 1/2". Tack sides of rolled edge to hold in place. Set in sleeves between armhole markers. Sew side and sleeve seams, reversing seams over rolled edges.

FLOWERS (make 3)
With crochet hook and A, ch 7. Join with sl st in first ch.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, work 9 sc in ring. Join with sl st to top of first sc.
Note: Rnd 2 is worked in the front lps of sc and Rnd 3 is worked into the back lps.
Rnd 2: *Ch 4, sk 1 sc, sc in next sc; rep from * 3 times, ch 4, sk next sc, sl st in base of beg ch.
Rnd 3: Sc in back lp of first sc on Round 1, *ch 8, sc in back lp of next sc; rep from * 8 times, ch 8, sl st in beg sc. Fasten off.

LEAVES (make 6)
With crochet hook and B, ch 10.
Row 1: Sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in next ch, sc in each of next 7 ch, ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in front lp of next 7 sc, sl st in front lp of next 2 sl st. DO NOT turn. Sl st in lp of Row 1. Fasten off. Sew 3 Vanilla buttons to WS of right frontband opposite buttonholes on left frontband. Using photo as a guide, overlap wide ends of 2 leaves, place black button on top and sew to right side of right frontband over Vanilla buttons. Slip black buttons through centers of flowers.

HAT (One size fits most)

GAUGE
With size J hook, gauge should be 4 sts and 3 rows = 1" in sc.

NOTE
All sc’s are worked through back loop of previous row.
With crochet hook, using MC, ch 5. Join with
a sl st to form a circle.
Round 1: Work 7 sc’s in circle, join with a sl st in first sc.
Round 2: Ch 1, work 2 sc’s in each sc, join with a sl st in first sc – 14 sc’s.
Round 3: Ch 1, * work 1 sc in next sc, work 2 sc’s in next sc, rep from * around, join with a sl st in first sc – 21 sc’s.
Round 4: Ch 1, * work 1 sc in each of the next 2 sc’s, 2 sc’s in next sc, rep from * around, join with a sl st in first sc – 28 sc’s. Continue in this manner to inc 7 sc’s in each round, working 1 more sc between incs until 10 rounds have been completed – 70 sc’s. Work even in sc for 7 rounds.
Brim: Round 18: Ch 1, * work 1 sc in each of the next 9 sc’s, 2 sc’s in next sc, rep from * around, join with a sl st in first sc – 77 sc’s. Continue to inc 7 sc’s each round, working 1 more sc between incs for 5 more rounds – 112 sc’s. Join A and work 1 more round, increasing as before – 119 sc’s. Work 1 round even. Fasten off.

FINISHING
Make 1 flower and 2 leaves same as for sweater. Overlap wide ends of leaves, place black button on top and sew tog. Slip center of flower over button. Sew safety pin to back. Fold brim of hat back as in photo and pin flower and leaves through both layers of hat to hold in place. Note: Button and leaves may be sewn directly to hat same as for sweater after brim has been folded back.
