BERROCO OPTIK (50 grs), 8(8-9-10-10) hanks #4901 Renoir (B).
Straight knitting needles, sizes 9 and 11 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
5 1 buttons.
GAUGE
9 sts = 4; 14 rows = 4 in Moss St with A and B worked tog on size 11 needles.
13 sts = 4; 18 rows = 4 in k2, p2 rib with A and B worked tog on size 9 needles.
13 sts = 4; 24 rows = 4 in Garter St with A and B worked tog on size 9 needles.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.
NOTE
A and B are worked tog throughout this garment.
MOSS STITCH
Rows 1 and 2: * K1, p1, rep from * across.
Rows 3 and 4: * P1, k1, rep from * across.
Rep these 4 rows for Moss St.
BACK
With larger needles, using A and B held tog, cast on 46(50-54-60-64) sts. Work even in Moss St until piece measures 14 from beg, end on WS.
Shape Armholes: Bind off 2 sts at beg of the next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at each side every RS row 3 times 36(40-44-50-54) sts. Work even in pat as established until armholes measure 8(8-8-1/2-9-9-1/2), end on WS.
Shape Shoulders and Neck: Bind off 6(7-8-9-10) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 5(6-7-8-9) sts at beg of the next 2 rows. Bind off remaining 14(14-14-16-16) sts for back neck.
LEFT FRONT
With larger needles, using A and B held tog, cast on 24(26-28-32-34) sts. Work even in Moss St until piece measures 14 from beg, end on WS.
Shape Armhole: Bind off 2 sts at beg of the next row. Dec 1 st at armhole edge every RS row 3 times. AT THE SAME TIME, when armhole measures 1, end on RS.
Shape Neck: Bind off 2 sts at beg of the next row. Continuing armhole shaping, dec 1 st at neck every other row 0(0-0-4-4) times, then every 4th row 6(6-6-4-4) times 11(13-15-17-19) sts. When armhole measures 8(8-8-1/2-9-9-1/2), end on WS.
Shape Shoulder: Bind off 6(7-8-9-10) sts at armhole edge once, then bind off 5(6-7-8-9) sts once.
RIGHT FRONT
With larger needles, using A and B held tog, cast on 24(26-28-32-34) sts. Work even in Moss St until piece measures 2 from beg, end on WS.
Next Row (Buttonhole): Work 2 sts, yo, k2 tog, work to end. Complete to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping and making 4 more buttonholes 3(3-3-1/4-3-1/4-3-1/2) apart along front edge, the last 1(1-1/2-1-1/2) below beg of neck shaping.
SLEEVES
With smaller needles, using A and B held tog, cast on 32 sts. Work even in k2, p2 ribbing until sleeve measures 6 from beg. Change to larger needles and p the next row, decreasing 4 sts evenly spaced across last row 28 sts. Work in Moss St, inc 1 st each side every 6th row 0(0-0-2-7) times, every 8th row 0(0-2-4-0) times, every 10th row 0(0-3-0-0) times, every 12th row 3(4-0-0-0) times, then every 14th row 1(0-0-0-0) times, working incs into Moss St as sts become available 36(36-38-40-42) sts. Work even in pat as established until sleeve measures 21(20-1/2-20-19-1/2-19) from beg, end on WS.
Shape Cap: Bind off 2 sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every 4th row twice, end on WS 28(28-30-32-34) sts. Bind off all sts loosely.
POCKETS (Make 2)
With larger needles, using A and B held tog, cast on 16 sts. Work even in Moss St until piece measures 5_ from beg, end on WS, increasing 6 sts evenly spaced across last row 22 sts. Change to larger needles.
Row 1 (RS): K2, * p2, k2, rep from * across.
Row 2: P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across. Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 7 from beg. Bind off loosely in ribbing.
FINISHING
Steam pieces lightly. Sew shoulder seams.
Collar: With RS facing, using smaller needles and A and B held tog, beg after bound-off sts of right front neck, pick up and k26 sts along right front neck edge, place marker, pick up and k15(15-15-17-17) sts across back neck edge, place marker, pick up and k26 sts along left front neck edge to bound-off sts 67(67-67-69-69) sts. Knit 1 row.
Short Rows: K to 2nd marker, turn, sl 1 purlwise WYIB, k to 1st marker, turn, sl 1 purlwise WYIB, k to 4 sts after 2nd marker, turn, sl 1 purlwise WYIB. Continue in this manner to k4 more sts each row until all sts have been worked. Knit 2 rows. Bind off all sts loosely. Sew front edges of collar to bound-off sts at neck edge. Sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams, reversing seams over lower 3 of sleeves. Sew 1 pocket to each front with the lower edge of pocket 2 above lower edge of sweater and the outer edge of pocket 3/4(1-1/2-2-2-1/2-3) in from side seam. Sew on buttons.
