MATERIALS
BERROCO OPTIK (50 grs), 9(10-11-12-13-14) hanks #4902 Matisse for sweater, 2 hanks for scarf.
Straight knitting needles, size 8 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
16” length circular knitting needle, size 8.
1 St Marker.
GAUGE
4 sts = 1”; 6 rows = 1” in St st.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.
BACK
With straight needles, cast on 76(80-88-96-104-112) sts. K 6 rows, then work in St st until piece measures 3” from beg, end on WS. Dec 1 st each side of the next row, then every 2-1/2” 3 times more – 68(72-80-88-96-104) sts. Work even until piece measures 12” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Armholes: Bind off 2 sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every RS row 6 times – 52(56-64-72-80-88) sts. Work even until armholes measure 7-1/2(8-8-1/2-9-9-1/2-10)”, end on WS.
Shape Shoulders: Bind off 4(5-6-7-8-10) sts at beg of the next 4 rows, then 5(4-6-7-9-9) sts at beg of the next 2 rows. Bind off remaining 26(28-28-30-30-30) sts for neck.
FRONT
Work same as for back until armholes measure 6(6-1/2-7-7-1/2-8-8-1/2)”, end on WS.
Shape Neck: K21(22-26-29-33-37) sts, join another ball of yarn and bind off center 10(12-12-14-14-14) sts, k to end. Working both sides at once, bind off 3 sts at each neck edge twice, then dec 1 st at each neck edge every RS row twice – 13(14-18-21-25-29) sts each side. AT THE SAME TIME, when armholes measure 7-1/2(8-8-1/2-9-9-1/2-10)”, bind off 4(5-6-7-8-10) sts at each armhole edge twice, then 5(4-6-7-9-9) sts once.
SLEEVES
With straight needles, cast on 40 sts. K 6 rows, then work even in St st until sleeve measures 2” from beg, end on WS. Inc 1 st each end of every 4th row 0(0-0-0-4-10) times, every 6th row 0(0-1-9-12-8) times, every 8th row 0(2-11-5-0-0) times, every 10th row 0(8-0-0-0-0) times, then every 12th row 8(0-0-0-0-0) times, – 56(60-64-68-72-76) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 19(19-18-1/2-18-1/2-18-17-1/2)” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Cap: Bind off 2 sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every RS row 4 times – 44(48-52-56-60-64) sts. Bind off all sts.
FINISHING
Steam pieces lightly. Sew shoulder seams.
Neckband: With RS facing, using circular needle, beg at center back neck, pick up and k13(14-14-15-15-15) sts to left shoulder seam, 14 sts along left front neck edge, 10(12-12-14-14-14) sts across front neck edge, 14 sts along right front neck edge and 13(14-14-15-15-15) sts across remaining back neck edge – 64(68-68-72-72-72) sts. Mark for beg of round and carry marker up. * P 1 round, k 1 round, rep from * once more, then p 1 round. Bind off all sts knitwise. Sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams.
SCARF (Optional)
With straight needles, cast on 24 sts. K 6 rows. Keeping 3 sts at each side in Garter St and remaining sts in St st, work even until piece measures 47(47 48-48-1/2-49-49-1/2)” long, end on WS. K 6 rows. Bind off knitwise. Steam lightly.
