Straight knitting needles, size 10 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
24” length circular knitting needle, size 10.
Crochet hook, size 6.00 (J).
2 St Holders.
1 St Marker.
GAUGE
3 sts = 1”; 4 rows = 1” in St st.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.
BACK
With straight needles, using MC, cast on 72(78-84-90-96) sts. Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 2 rows, then work even in St st until piece measures 2-1/2” from beg, end on WS. Dec 1 st each end of next row, then rep this dec every 2” 6 times more – 58(64-70-76-82) sts. Work even until piece measures 15-1/2” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Armholes: Bind off 3 sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side of every other RS row twice – 48(54-60-66-72) sts. Work even until armholes measure 6(6-1/2-7-7-1/2-8)”, end on WS.
Shape Neck and Shoulders: K10(13-16-19-22), sl center 28 sts onto holder for back neck, join another ball of MC and k to end. Working both sides at once, dec 1 st at each neck edge every RS row twice. AT THE SAME TIME, when armholes measure 7-1/2(8-8-1/2-9-9-1/2)”, end on WS. Bind off 4(6-7-9-10) sts at each armhole edge once, then 4(5-7-8-10) sts once.
FRONT
Work same as for back until armholes measure 5-1/2(6-6-1/2-7-7-1/2)”, end on WS – 48(54-60-66-72) sts.
Shape Neck and Shoulders: K12(15-18-21-24), sl center 24 sts onto holder for front neck, join another ball of MC and k to end. Working both sides at once, dec 1 st at each neck edge every RS row 4 times. AT THE SAME TIME, when armholes measure 7-1/2(8-8-1/2-9-9-1/2)”, end on WS. Bind off 4(6-7-9-10) sts at each armhole edge once, then 4(5-7-8-10) sts once.
SLEEVES
With straight needles, using MC, cast on 28 sts. Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 1”, inc 1(0-1-0-1) st at end of last row – 29(28-29-28-29) sts. Work in St st, inc 1 st each side every 4th row 0(0-2-9-13) times, every 6th row 0(8-9-4-1) times, every 8th row 7(2-0-0-0) times, then every 10th row 1(0-0-0-0) time – 45(48-51-54-57) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 18-1/2(18-17-1/2-17-16-1/2)” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Cap: Bind off 3 sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every RS row 3 times, end on WS – 33(36-39-42-45) sts. Bind off all sts loosely.
FINISHING
Steam pieces lightly. Sew shoulder seams. Sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams.
Collar: With RS facing, using circular needle and MC, beg at center back neck, k14 sts from back holder, pick up and k8 sts along left back neck edge, 11 sts along left front neck edge, k24 sts from front holder, pick up and k11 sts along right front neck edge, 8 sts along right back neck edge, then k remaining 14 sts from back holder – 90 sts. Mark for beg of round and carry marker up. Join and work even in k3, p3 ribbing for 5-1/2”. Bind off all sts in ribbing loosely.
Edging: Rnd 1: With WS facing, using crochet hook and CC, join yarn at center back neck and work 1 sc in each bound-off st around collar. Join with a sl st in first sc. DO NOT turn.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc, * sc in next sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc, rep from * around, join with a sl st in first sc. DO NOT turn.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, * skip first sc, sc in ch 1 space, ch 4, skip last ch worked, work sc in each of the remaining 3 ch sts, sc in same ch 1 space, rep from * around, join with a sl st in ch 1. Fasten off. Steam crochet trim to lie flat.
