STITCH GLOSSARY
KSP
K1, then sl st back to LH needle, lift 2nd st on LH needle back over returned st and replace returned st on RH needle (1 st dec’d).
K2SP
K2 tog, then sl st back to LH needle, lift 2nd st on LH needle back over returned st and replace returned st on RH needle (2 sts dec’d).
NOTE
When decreasing on front armholes and raglan sleeve caps, if there are too few sts to work k5 before and after decs, work decs in k5 edging, keeping as many sts at edge in Garter St as possible.
BACK
With straight needles, cast on 100(110-120-130-145) sts. Work even in Garter St for ¾”, end on WS.
Next Row (RS): K1, SSK, k to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1. Working in St st, dec in this manner every 3-1/4” twice, then every 3” twice. Work even on 90(100-110-120-135) sts until piece measures 14” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Raglan Armholes: Bind off 4 sts at beg of the next 2 rows.
For sizes Large and X-Large ONLY: Row 1 (RS): K5, K2SP, k to last 8 sts, sl 1, k2 tog, psso, k5.
Row 2: K5, p to last 5 sts, k5. Rep these 2 rows 1(6) times more, end on WS.
For ALL sizes: Next Row (RS): K5, KSP, k to last 7 sts, sl 1, k1, psso, k5. Keeping 5 sts each side in Garter St and remaining sts in St st, continue to dec in this manner every other RS row 5(3-0-0-0) times more, then every RS row 21(27-34-33-31) times, end on WS. Bind off remaining 28(30-32-36-35) sts.
LEFT FRONT
With straight needles, cast on 53(58-63-68-75) sts. Work even in Garter St for 3/4”, end on WS.
Dec Row (RS): K1, SSK, k across.
Next Row: K6, p to end. Keeping 6 sts at front edge in Garter St for frontband and remaining sts in St st, dec in this manner every 3-1/4” twice, then every 3” twice. Work even on 48(53-58-63-70) sts until piece measures 14” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Raglan Armhole: Bind off 4 sts at beg of the next row. Work 1 row even.
For sizes Medium, Large and X-Large ONLY: Row 1 (RS): K5, K2SP, k across.
Row 2: K6, p to last 5 sts, k5. Rep these 2 rows 1(4-8) times more.
For ALL sizes: Next Row (RS): K5, KSP, k across. Work 3(3-1-1-1) rows even. Keeping 5 sts at armhole edge and 6 sts at front edge in Garter St and remaining sts in St st, continue to dec in this manner every other RS row 3(1-0-0-0) times more, then every RS row 22(28-29-27-25) times. AT THE SAME TIME, when 29(30-32-31-34) sts remain on needle and armhole measures 5(5-1/2-5-1/2-6-6-1/2)”, end on RS.
Shape Neck (WS): K6 and sl these sts onto a holder, work to end. Continuing to work armhole decs, bind off 3(3-4-4-5) sts at neck edge once, 1(2-2-4-4) sts once, then dec 1 st at neck edge every RS row 7 times. Fasten off. Mark placement of 5 buttons evenly spaced along frontband, the first 2” above lower edge, the second to be made in 3rd row of neckband.
RIGHT FRONT
Work to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping; working side decs as k2 tog, k1 instead of k1, SSK; working armhole decs as sl 1, k2 tog, psso, k5 instead of K5, K2SP; and sl 1, k1, psso, k5 instead of k5, KSP. Make buttonholes opposite markers as follows:
Row 1 (RS): K2, k2 tog, yo, SSK, k to end.
Next Row: Work to last 6 sts, k1, k in front and back of yo, k3.
LEFT SLEEVE
With straight needles, cast on 50 sts. Work even in Garter St for ¾”, end on WS. Work in St st, inc 1 st each side every 4th row 0(0-0-2-13) times, every 6th row 0(0-9-13-5) times, every 8th row 0(5-4-0-0) times, every 10th row 3(5-0-0-0) times, then every 12th row 5(0-0-0-0) times. Work even on 66(70-76-80-86) sts until sleeve measures 14-1/2(14-1/2-14-14-13-1/2)” from beg, end on WS.
Note: Work decs at beg of RS rows as k5, KSP. Work decs at end of RS rows as sl 1, k1, psso, k5. WS rows are always worked as k5, p to last 5 sts, k5 until bind off rows at the end.
Shape Raglan Cap: Bind off 4 sts at beg of the next 2 rows. Work decs at beg of RS rows as in note every other RS row 9(9-6-6-5) times, then every RS row 15(17-23-25-29) times. Work decs at end of RS rows every other RS row 6(6-3-2-1) times, then every RS row 18(20-26-29-33) times. When all decs at end of RS rows have been completed, continue to work decs at beg of RS rows and AT THE SAME TIME, bind off 4 sts at beg of the next WS row, then bind off 3 sts at beg of the next 2 WS rows.
RIGHT SLEEVE
Work to correspond to left sleeve, reversing shaping of sleeve cap.
POCKETS (Make 2)
With straight needles, cast on 25 sts. Work even in St st until piece measures 4-1/4” from beg, then work even in Garter St until piece measures 5” from beg. Bind off all sts.
FINISHING
Steam pieces lightly. Pin 1 pocket to each front with lower edge 1” above Garter St band at bottom of front and inner edge 1-1/2(2-2-1/2-3-3-3/4)” in from frontband. Sew side and lower edges of each pocket in place. Sew raglan sleeve caps to raglan armholes. Sew side and sleeve seams.
Neckband: With RS facing, using straight needles, k6 sts from right front holder, pick up and k20(21-22-23-24) sts along right front neck edge, 9 sts across top of right sleeve, 28(30-32-36-35) sts across back neck edge, 9 sts across top of left sleeve, 20(21-22-23-24) sts along left front neck edge, then k6 sts from left front holder – 98(102-106-112-113) sts. Knit 1 row. Make buttonhole in next 2 rows same as for right front. Knit 2 rows more. Bind off all sts. Sew on buttons.
