Straight knitting needles, sizes 8 and 9 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
16” Circular knitting needle, size 8.
1 St Marker.

19 sts = 4”; 23 rows = 4” in Reverse St st on size 9 needles.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.
BACK
With smaller straight needles, cast on 77(81-93-105-113-129) sts.
Row 1 (RS): K1, * p2, k2, rep from * across.
Row 2: P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across, end p1 instead of p2. Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 1” from beg, end on Row 2, increasing 1(1-0-0-0-0) st at each end of last row – 79(83-93-105-113-129) sts. Change to larger needles and, keeping 1 st at each side in St st as a selvage st, work remaining sts even in Reverse St st until piece measures 14” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Armholes: Row 1 (RS): Work 2, work 2 tog, work to last 4 sts, work 2 tog, work 2. Continue to dec in this manner EVERY row 0(0-0-0-2-6) times more, every RS row 5(7-9-9-12-10) times, then every other RS row 4(3-2-2-0-0) times – 59(61-69-81-83-95) sts. Work even in St st and Reverse St st until armholes measure 7-1/2(8-8-1/2-9-9-1/2-10)”, end on WS.
Shape Shoulders and Neck: Bind off 6(6-8-11-11-14) sts, p until there are 7(7-9-11-12-15) sts on RH needle, join another ball of yarn and bind off center 33(35-35-37-37-37) sts, p to end. Working both sides at once, bind off 6(6-8-11-11-14) sts at beg of the next row, then 6(6-8-10-11-14) sts at beg of the next 2 rows. AT THE SAME TIME, dec 1 st at each neck edge once.
FRONT
Work same as for back until armholes measure 5-1/4(5-3/4-6-1/4-6-3/4-7-1/4-7-3/4)”, end on WS.
Shape Neck: P18(18-22-27-28-34), join another ball of yarn and bind off center 23(25-25-27-27-27) sts, p to end. Working both sides at once, dec 1 st 2 sts in from each neck edge same as for armholes every RS row 6 times. AT THE SAME TIME, when armholes measure 7-1/2(8-8-1/2-9-9-1/2-10)”, bind off 6(6-8-11-11-14) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 6(6-8-10-11-14) sts at beg of the next 2 rows.
SLEEVES
With smaller straight needles, cast on 53(57-57-61-61-65) sts. Work in ribbing same as for back for 1”, end on Row 2. Change to larger needles and, keeping 1 st at each side in St st as a selvage st, work remaining sts in Reverse St st, inc 1 st 1 st in from each side EVERY row 0(0-0-2-6-6) times, every RS row 3(3-7-6-4-4) times, then every other RS row 2(2-0-0-0-0) times. Work even on 63(67-71-77-81-85) sts until sleeve measures 4” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Cap: Row 1 (RS): K1, p1, p2 tog, p to last 4 sts, p2 tog, p1, k1.
Row 2: P1, k1, k2 tog, k to last 4 sts, k2 tog, k1, p1. Rep these 2 rows 0(1-2-4-2-3) times more, then rep Row 1 every RS row 15(14-13-11-16-15) times more, end on WS. Bind off remaining 29(31-33-35-37-39) sts.
FINISHING
Steam pieces lightly. Sew shoulder seams.
Neckband: With RS facing, using circular needle, beg at center back neck, pick up and k19(20-20-21-21-21) sts to left shoulder seam, 12 sts along left front neck edge, 23(25-25-27-27-27) sts across front neck edge, 12 sts along right front neck edge, then 18(19-19-20-20-20) sts across remaining back neck edge – 84(88-88-92-92-92) sts. Mark for beg of round and carry marker up. Work in k2, p2 ribbing until neckband measures 7-1/2” from beg. Bind off all sts loosely in ribbing. Sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams.
