A ribbed high-necked shell with diagonal asymmetry in Cotton Twist.

 

Shown in size Small.

 

SIZE
Directions are for women’s size X-Small.  Changes for sizes Small, Medium, Large, X-Large and XX-Large are in parentheses.

 

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Bust – 33(35-39-44-48-54)”.
Length – 21-1/2(22-22-1/2-23-23-1/2-24)”.

 

MATERIALS
BERROCO COTTON TWIST (50 grs), 7(8-9-10-11-12) hanks #8336 Sea Anemone.
Straight knitting needles, sizes 7 and 8 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
16” length circular knitting needle, size 7.
1 Cable Needle (cn).
2 St Holders.

 

GAUGE
6 sts = 1”;  13 rows = 2” in Rib Pats on size 8 needles.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.
Note:  Both St AND Row gauge are extremely important to assure proper measurements of this garment.

 

STITCH GLOSSARY
LT3
Sl 2 sts to cn and hold in FRONT, p1, then k2 from cn.
LT4
Sl 2 sts to cn and hold in FRONT, p2, then k2 from cn.
RT3
Sl 1 st to cn and hold in BACK, k2, then p1 from cn.
RT4
Sl 2 sts to cn and hold in BACK, k2, then k2 from cn.
KSP
K1, then sl st back to LH needle, lift 2nd st on LH needle back over returned st and replace returned st on RH needle (1 st dec’d).

NOTE
Keep 1 st at each edge in St st as a selvage st up to the armholes, and 2 sts at each edge up to the shoulders.

 

RIB PAT 1
Row 1 (RS):
  K3(2-7-7-5-2), * p2, k5, rep from * across.
Row 2:  K the k sts and p the p sts as they face you.
Rep these 2 rows for Rib Pat 1.

 

RIB PAT 2
Row 1 (RS):
  K2, * p2, k2, rep from * across.
Row 2:  K the k sts and p the p sts as they face you.
Rep these 2 rows for Rib Pat 2.

 

BACK
With smaller straight needles, cast on 101(107-119-133-145-163) sts.
Row 1 (RS):  K1, * p1, k1 rep from * across.
Row 2:  P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows once more, end on Row 2, dec 1 st at end – 100(106-118-132-144-162) sts.  Change to larger needles.
Note:  Sts to the left of RT3 or RT4 are to be worked into Rib Pat 2 on following row as sts become available.
Establish Pat Sts:  Row 1 (RS):  K1, work Row 1 of Rib Pat 1 to last 5 sts, RT4, k1.
Row 2:  P5, work in ribbing as established to end.
Row 3:  Work in pat as established to last 6 sts, RT3, k3
Row 4:  P3, k1, p2, work in ribbing as established to end.  Continue in this manner to alternate RT4 and RT3 on every RS row, moving RT4 2 sts to the right and RT3 1 st to the right 4(5-10-16-22-30) times more.  At this point, discontinue RT4’s and continue to move RT3 1 st to the right every RS row 58(58-50-39-29-14) times more.  AT THE SAME TIME, when 49(50-55-61-66-66) sts have been worked to the left of diagonal band formed by RT3/RT4 and piece measures approximately 14” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Armholes:  Bind off 6(8-8-7-7-7) sts at beg of the next 2 rows.
Row 3 (RS):  K2, KSP, work in pat as established to last 4 sts, sl 1, k1, psso, k1.  Continuing to move RT3  to the right as before, dec in this manner every RS row 10(11-11-11-11-11) times more.  Keeping 2 sts at each side in St st, and continuing to move RT3 to the right as before, work even on 66(66-78-94-106-124) sts until 57(57-64-72-80-89) sts have been worked to the left of diagonal band and armholes measure 7-1/2(8-8-1/2-9-9-1/2-10)”, end on WS.
Shape Shoulders:  Working in pat as established, bind off 9(9-14-22-26-35) sts at beg of the next 2 rows.  Working all sts in Rib Pat 2, dec 1 st each side every RS row 3 times.  Sl remaining 42(42-44-44-48-48) sts onto holder for back neck.

 

FRONT
Note:
  Reverse Rib Pat 1 when working front.
Work same as for back until 4 rows have been completed.
Establish Pat Sts:  Row 1 (RS):  K1, LT4, work Row 1 of Rib Pat 1 to last st, k1.
Row 2:  Work in ribbing as established to last 5 sts, p5.  Work in same manner as for back, substituting LT4 for RT4 and LT3 for RT3 and moving sts to the left instead of the right.  When 57(57-64-72-80-89) sts have been worked to the right of LT3 and armholes measure 7-1/2(8-8-1/2-9-9-1/2-10)”, end on WS.
Shape Shoulders and Neck:  Next Row (RS):  Bind off 9(9-14-22-26-35) sts, work until there are 11 sts on RH needle, sl center 26(26-28-28-32-32) sts onto holder for front neck, join another ball of yarn and work to end.  Working both sides at once, bind off 9(9-14-22-26-35) sts at beg of the next row and dec 1 st at each neck edge.  Continue to dec 1 st at each neck edge EVERY row 6 times more and AT THE SAME TIME, dec 1 st at each shoulder edge every RS row same as for back.  Fasten off last st each side.

 

FINISHING
Steam pieces lightly. Sew shoulder and side seams.
Neckband:  With RS facing, using circular needle, beg at center back,  work 21(21-22-22-24-24) sts from back holder, pick up and k8 sts along left front neck edge, work 26(26-28-28-32-32) sts from front holder, pick up and k8 sts along right front neck edge, work remaining 21(21-22-22-24-24) sts from back holder – 84(84-88-88-96-96) sts.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Work even in St st (k EVERY rnd) for 1-1/2”.  Bind off all sts.
Armbands (Optional):  With RS facing, using circular needle, beg at side seam, pick up and k90(96-102-108-114-120) sts evenly spaced around entire armhole.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.
Rnd 2:  K2 tog, work in k1, p1 ribbing to last 2 sts, k2 tog.  Rep this rnd until armband measures 1/2”.  Bind off all sts in ribbing.
