Yarn used ...

A sweet little jumper/sundress in Cotton Twist with optional ribbon trim.

 

Shown in size 4.

 

SIZES
Directions are for children’s size 2.  Changes for sizes 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 are in parentheses.

 

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Chest – 21(23-1/2-25-27-28-1/2-30)”.Length – 13(17-19-1/2-21-22-1/4-23-1/2)” (Not including straps).

 

MATERIALS
BERROCO COTTON TWIST (50 grs), 4(5-6-7-8-9) hanks #8322 Fern.
Straight knitting needles, sizes 6 and 8 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
Crochet hook, size 4.50 mm (G).
1(1-1-1/4-1-1/4-1-1/2-1-1/2) yds each of 3 different ½” wide decorative ribbons (Optional).

 

GAUGE
19 sts = 4”; 26 rows = 4” in St st on size 8 needles.TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

 

STITCH GLOSSARY
K2SP
K2 tog, then sl st back to LH needle, lift 2nd st on LH needle back over returned st and replace returned st on RH needle (2 sts dec’d).
KSP
K1, then sl st back to LH needle, lift 2nd st on LH needle back over returned st and replace returned st on RH needle (1 st dec’d).

 

BACK
With larger needles, cast on 76(88-96-104-104-114) sts.  Work even in St st for 1”, end on WS.
Dec Row:
  K1, SSK, k to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1.  Rep this dec every 4th row 3(6-5-8-0-5) times more, then every 6th row 9(9-12-11-17-15) times.  Work even on 50(56-60-64-68-72) sts until piece measures 11-1/2(13-1/2-15-1/2-16-1/2-17-1/2-18-1/2)” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Armholes: 
For sizes 2, 4, 6 and 8 ONLY: Dec Row (RS):
  K2, K2SP, k to last 5 sts, sl 1, k2 tog, psso, k2.  Rep this dec every RS row 3(3-1-0) times more, end on WS.
For sizes 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 ONLY: Next Row (RS):
  K2, KSP, k to last 4 sts, sl 1, k1, psso, k2.  Rep this dec every RS row 0(4-6-8-7) times more, then every other RS row 0(0-0-0-1) time, end on WS.
For ALL sizes:  Change to smaller needles – 34(38-42-46-50-54) sts.
Row 1 (RS):
  K2, * p2, k2, rep from * across.
Row 2:
  P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows until ribbing measures 1-3/4(2-2-2-2-2)”, end on WS.  (Armholes should measure approximately 3(3-1/2-4-4-1/2-4-3/4-5)” from beg.)  Bind off all sts in ribbing.

 

FRONT
Work same as for back.

 

FINISHING
Steam pieces lightly.  Sew side seams.
Left Shoulder Strap and Edging: 
With RS facing, join yarn at left side seam and work in sc along front armhole edge to top of ribbing, ch for 5”, work in sc along back armhole edge to left side seam.  Join with a sl st in first sc.  DO NOT turn.  Ch 1, work 1 sc in each sc and ch around.  Join with a sl st in first sc.  Fasten off.  With RS facing, join yarn at top of back ribbing and work 1 sc in the other side of each ch to front ribbing.  Fasten off.
Right Shoulder Strap and Edging:
  With RS facing, join yarn at right side seam and work in sc along back armhole edge to top of ribbing.  Complete to correspond to left side.
Bottom Edging:
  With RS facing, join yarn at left side seam and work 1 row sc around entire lower edge.  Join with a sl st in first sc.  DO NOT turn.  Ch 1, work 1 sc in each sc around.  Join with a sl st in first sc.  Fasten off.
Optional:
  Pin 3 rows of decorative ribbon around lower edge of skirt above bottom edging as shown in photo with ends meeting at center back.  Slip stitch in place.
