With smaller straight needles, cast on 79(93-100-107-121-135) sts. Work even in Rib Pat for 2-1/2”, end on RS. Change to larger needles and p the next row, dec 1(5-4-1-7-7) sts evenly spaced across – 78(88-96-106-114-128) sts. Work even in St st until piece measures 11” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Armholes: Bind off 4 sts at beg of the next 2 rows.
Row 1 (RS): K2, K2SP, k to last 5 sts, sl 1, k2 tog, psso, k2. Purl 1 row. Rep these 2 rows once more.
Row 5 (RS): K2, KSP, k to last 4 sts, sl 1, k1, psso, k2. Rep this dec every RS row 3 times more, then work even in St st on 54(64-72-82-90-104) sts until armholes measure 7-1/2(8-8-1/2-9-9-9-1/2)”, end on WS.
Shape Shoulders and Neck: Bind off 4(5-7-8-10-11) sts at beg of the next 2 rows.
Next Row (RS): Bind off 3(5-6-8-9-12) sts, k until there are 4(6-7-9-10-13) sts on RH needle, join another ball of yarn and bind off center 32 sts, k to end. Working both sides at once, bind off 3(5-6-8-9-12) sts at beg of the next 3 rows. AT THE SAME TIME, dec 1 st at each neck edge on next WS row.
FRONT
With smaller straight needles, cast on 79(93-100-107-121-135) sts. Work even in Rib Pat for 2-1/2”, end on RS, inc 1(dec 3-dec 2-inc 1-dec 5-dec 5) sts on last row – 80(90-98-108-116-130) sts. Change to larger needles.
Establish Pat St: Row 1 (WS): P31(36-40-45-49-56), place marker, work Row 1 of Five-Rib Braid over 18 sts, place marker, p to end.
Row 2: K to first marker, work Row 2 of Five-Rib Braid to last marker, k to end. Work even in pat as established until piece measures 11” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Armholes: Work same as for back – 56(66-74-84-92-106) sts. Work even in pat as established until armholes measure 2-1/2(3-3-1/2-4-4-4-1/2)”, end on WS.
Note: Dec 2 sts on left side of neck as sl 1, k2 tog, psso, k2; dec 1 st on left side of neck as sl 1, k1, psso, k2. Dec 2 sts on right side of neck as k2, K2SP; dec 1 st on right side of neck as k2, KSP.
Shape V-Neck: K27(32-36-41-45-52), sl center 2 sts onto a holder, join another hank of yarn and k to end. Working both sides at once, work 1 row even. Dec 2 sts at each neck edge as in note every RS row 3 times, then dec 1 st at each neck edge as in note every RS row 11 times. Work even if necessary on 10(15-19-24-28-35) sts each side until armholes measures 7-1/2(8-8-1/2-9-9-9-1/2)”, end on WS.
Shape Shoulders: Bind off 4(5-7-8-10-11) sts at each armhole edge once, then 3(5-6-8-9-12) sts twice.
SLEEVES
With smaller straight needles, cast on 44 sts. Work even in Rib Pat for 7”, end on RS. Change to larger needles and p the next row, dec 1 st at end – 43 sts. Work in St st, inc 1 st each side every other row 0(0-4-9-16-20) times, every 4th row 2(11-10-7-3-1) times, then every 6th row 7(1-0-0-0-0) times – 61(67-71-75-81-85) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 16-3/4(16-3/4-16-1/2-16-15-1/2-15-1/2)” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Cap: Bind off 4 sts at beg of the next 2 rows.
Row 1 (RS): K2, K2SP, k to last 5 sts, sl 1, k2 tog, psso, k2. Purl 1 row. Rep these 2 rows 0(1-1-0-3-3) times more.
Next Row (RS): K2, KSP, k to last 4 sts, sl 1, k1, psso, k2. Purl 1 row. Rep these 2 rows 12(11-11-12-9-9) times more, end on WS. Bind off 2 sts at beg of the next 4 rows. Bind off remaining 15(19-23-29-29-33) sts.
FINISHING
Steam pieces lightly. Sew shoulder seams.
Neckband: With RS facing, using circular needle, beg at center back neck, pick up and k17 sts to left shoulder seam, 33 sts to holder, k 2 sts from holder, pick up and k33 sts to right shoulder seam, then 17 sts along remaining back neck edge – 102 sts. Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.
Rnd 1: P1, (k2, p1, k2, p2) 7 times, place marker, k2, place marker, p2, (k2, p1, k2, p2) 6 times, (k2, p1) twice. Rep this rnd, decreasing 1 st before first marker and after second, keeping 2 sts between markers in St st, for 1-1/2”. Bind off all sts in ribbing. Sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams, reversing seams over lower 3-1/2” of sleeve ribbing. Fold sleeve ribbing in half to RS.
