  K1, * yo, k2 tog, rep from * across.
Row 2:
P1, * yo, p2 tog, rep from * across.Rep these 2 rows for Pat St.

PON/SHAWL
With straight needles, using MC, cast on 45 sts.  Purl 1 row.  Work even in Pat St until piece measures 30” from beg, end on WS.  Bind off all sts.

FRINGE
Cut two 10” long strands of CC.  Put strands tog and fold in half.  With crochet hook, draw center of strands through 1st st on cast-on edge of pon/shawl forming a lp.  Pull ends of fringe through this lp.  In this manner, make fringe along entire cast-on edge, up 1 side edge, then along bound-off edge.  Leave the remaining side edge unfringed for top of pon/shawl.  Trim fringe to even off if necessary.
Note:  For speedier cutting, wrap yarn multiple times around a piece of cardboard that is the desired finished length of the fringe.  Cut the lower edge to free wrapped strands.
