Our ruffled Bayou handbag is worked in a combination of knit and crochet.

Approximately 28 1/2” around x 10” high (Not including handle

 

MATERIALS

6 Hanks BERROCO TRILOGY (50 grs), #7621 Button Blue

2 Balls BERROCO SUEDE (50 grs), #3729 Zorro

29” Length circular knitting needle, size 10 1/2 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Crochet hook, size 6.00 mm (J)

GAUGE

14 sts = 4”;  20 rows = 4” in St st with Trilogy on size 10 1/2 needle

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE

 

BAG

Bottom:  With crochet hook, using 1 strand each of Trilogy and Suede held tog, ch 4, join with a sl st to form a ring.

Rnd 1:  Ch 1, work 5 sc in ring, join with a sl st in ch-1.

Rnd 2:  Ch 1, work 2 sc in each sc around, join with a sl st in ch-1 – 10 sc’s.

Rnd 3:  Rep Rnd 2 – 20 sc’s.

Rnd 4:  Ch 1, * work 1 sc in next sc, 2 sc’s in next sc, rep from * around, join with a sl st in ch-1 – 30 sc’s.  Continue to inc 10 sc’s in this manner on every rnd, having 1 more sc between incs 7 times more – 100 sc’s.  Fasten off.

Top: Using circular needle and 1 strand each of Trilogy and Suede held tog, pick up and k100 sts around edge of bottom. Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up. Knit 5 rnds.

*Drop Suede and with 1 strand Trilogy, knit 3 rnds, p 2 rnds, then k 4 rnds. Join Suede and knit 4 rnds. Rep from * twice more.

Shape Flap:  Next Rnd:  Bind off 50 sts – 50 sts remain.  Drop Suede and work back and forth in Garter St with Trilogy until flap measures 7”.  Bind off.

Side Panels (Make 2):  With crochet hook, using 1 strand each of Trilogy and Suede held tog, ch 8.

Row 1:  Work 1 sc in each sc across – 8 sc’s.  Turn.

Row 2:  Ch 1, sc in each sc across – 8 sc’s.  Turn.  Rep Row 2 until panel measures 10” from beg.  Fasten off.  Sew 1 panel to each side of bag from top to bottom.  Sew 1 end of handle to each panel.
