SIZE Approximately 19” wide x 13” high x 5 1/2” deep (Not including handles)
MATERIALS 2 Hanks each BERROCO PERUVIA (100 grs), #7125 Sea Turtle (A) and #7143 Aquamarina (B) Straight knitting needles, size 9 (5.50 mm) 1 Pair of 30” long handles with 16” long dowels from Homestead Heirlooms 1 Piece of heavy cardboard 15” long x 5 1/2” wide for bottom Tapestry needle NOTEThere are no gauge requirements for this bag
PATTERN STITCH (Multiple of 3 sts + 2) Note: At the beg of Rows 2 and 4, pull yarn up as tightly as possible. This helps keep that edge tight. Row 1 (RS): With A, k1, * k3, pass first of the 3 sts just knit over the 2nd and 3rd sts, rep from * to last st, end k1 – 66 sts. Row 2: With B, p1, * insert needle from behind under the running thread between the st just worked and the next and purl this thread, p2, rep from * to last st, end p1 – 98 sts. Row 3: With B, k2, * k3, pass first of the 3 sts just knit over the 2nd and 3rd sts, rep from * across – 66 sts. Row 4: With A, p2, * insert needle from behind under the running thread between the st just worked and the next and purl this thread, p2, rep from * across – 98 sts. Rep these 4 rows for Pat St. BAGWith straight needles, using A, cast on 98 sts. Purl 1 row. Work even in Pat St until 59 stripes of A clusters have been completed, end on Row 1 of Pat St. Fasten off B. Work Row 2 of Pat St using A instead of B and knitting instead of purling. Bind off knitwise.
FINISHING Fold bag in half with cast-on and bound-off edges tog. Sew side seams. With bag flat, take lower right corner and bring it up 4” on side seam. Tack corner in place. Repeat on left side. Insert cardboard into bottom of bag. Center one handle on cast-on edge of bag. Using A and tapestry needle, sew through cast-on edge of bag and around dowel of handle. Repeat with 2nd handle on bound-off edge of bag. |
