HAT

With smaller dpn’s, cast on 98 sts.  Divide sts as evenly as possible onto 3 dpns.  Join, being careful not to twist sts.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Work even in k1, p1 ribbing for 1 3/4”.  Change to larger dpn’s and k the next rnd, dec 8 sts around – 90 sts.  Drop marker.  From here you will be working in a spiral where there is no beg or end of rnds.

Next Rnd:  * K6, SSK, k2 tog, yo, k1, yo, rep from * until piece measures approximately 5 1/2” from beg.

Shape Top:  * K to 2 sts before the SSK of the rnd below, SSK, k2 tog, yo, k1,  rep from * until there are no sts remaining between the (SSK, k2 tog, yo, k1) sections.  Next, omit the k1’s after the yo’s until there are only enough sts to work the SSK’s and k2 tog’s.  Next, omit the yo’s.  When only 4 sts remain, break off yarn leaving a 10” long end.  Thread end into tapestry needle and draw through all sts on needles.  Pull up tightly and secure.  Fasten off.

FINISHING
