SIZES

Directions are for children’s size 2.  Changes for size 4, 6 and 8 are in parentheses.

 

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Chest – 24(26-28-30)”.Length – 14(15-16-17)”.

 

MATERIALS

BERROCO PLUSH (50 grs),  2(3-3-4) balls #1901 Crema (MC).

Optional:  BERROCO COTTON TWIST (50 grs),  1 hank each #8322 Fern (A), #8350 Lilac (B) and #8347 Frankenberry (C).

Straight knitting needles, sizes 6 and 10 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

 

GAUGE

12 sts = 4”;  20 rows = 4” in St st with MC on size 10 needles.

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

 

BACK

With larger needles, using MC, cast on 38(41-44-47) sts.  Work even in St st for 9(9 1/2-10-10 1/2)”, end on WS.

Shape Armholes:  Bind off 2(3-3-3) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 34(35-38-41) sts.  Dec 1 st each side every RS row 5(5-6-7) times – 24(25-26-27) sts.  Work even until armholes measure 4(4 1/2-5-5 1/2)”, end on WS.

Shape Neck:  Next Row (RS):  K7, join another ball of MC and bind off center 10(11-12-13) sts, k to end.  Working both sides at once, dec 1 st at each neck edge every RS row twice – 5 sts each side.  When armholes measure 5(5 1/2-6-6 1/2)”, end on WS.  Bind off 5 sts each side for shoulders.

 

FRONT

Work same as for back until armholes measure 2 1/2(3-3 1/2-4)”, end on WS.

Shape Neck:  Next Row (RS):  K8, join another ball of MC and bind off center 8(9-10-11) sts, k to end.  Working both sides at once, dec 1 st at each neck edge every RS row 3 times – 5 sts each side.  Work even until armholes measure 5(5 1/2-6-6 1/2)”, end on WS.  Bind off 5 sts each side for shoulders.

 

FINISHING

Sew shoulder and side seams.

Optional Flowers:  With smaller needles, using B, cast on 36 sts.  Purl 1 row.

Dec Row 1 (RS):  * K1, SSK, rep from * across – 24 sts.  Purl 1 row.  Rep the last 2 rows once more, end on WS – 16 sts.

Dec Row 2 (RS):  * SSK, rep from * across – 8 sts.

Next Row (WS):  * P2 tog, rep from * across, binding off sts as you work.  Fasten off last st and break off yarn leaving a 10” long end for sewing.  Steam cast-on edge so it lies flat.  Coil piece around on itself.  Thread end through tapestry needle and sew center of flower so it lies flat.  Gather short edge of flower that is in the center and sew to center.  Make a second flower using C.

Optional Leaves (Make 2):  With smaller needles, using A, cast on 1 st.

Inc Row 1:  K in front and back of st – 2 sts.  Purl 1 row.

Inc Row 2:  K in front and back of each st – 4 sts.  Beg with a p row, work in St st until leaf measures 1” from beg, end on WS.

Dec Row 1:  SSK, k2 tog – 2 sts.  Purl 1 row.

Dec Row 2:  SSK – 1 st.  Fasten off last st and break off yarn leaving a 10” long end for sewing.  Sew flowers and leaves to front of garment as shown in photo.
