For an easy introduction to cables, try knitting our cozy baby blanket. A wide Plush border frames a cabled panel knit in our so soft Lullaby yarn.
SIZEApproximately 27” wide x 32” long (including border) MATERIALS4 balls BERROCO LULLABY (50 grs), #4209 Lemon Mousse 3 balls BERROCO PLUSH (50 grs), #1920 Orange Flash Straight knitting needles, sizes 9 and 10 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE Cable needle (cn) GAUGE24 sts = 4”; 23 rows = 4” in Cable Pat with Lullaby on size 9 needles 12 sts = 4”; 20 rows = 4” in St st with Plush on size 10 needles TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE STITCH GLOSSARYCB4 Sl 2 sts to cn and hold in BACK, k2, then k2 from cn. CB8 Sl 4 sts to cn and hold in BACK, k4, then k4 from cn.
CABLE PATTERN (Multiple of 24 sts + 20) Row 1 (RS): P2, k2, p2, * k8, p2, k2, p2, k4, p2, k2, p2, rep from * across, end k8, p2, k2, p2. Row 2 and all WS rows: K the k sts and p the p sts as they face you. Row 3: P2, k2, p2, * k8, p2, k2, p2, CB4, p2, k2, p2, rep from * across. Row 5: Rep Row 1. Row 7: Rep Row 3. Row 9: Rep Row 1. Row 11: P2, k2, p2, * CB8, p2, k2, p2, CB4, p2, k2, p2, rep from * across, end CB8, p2, k2, p2. Row 12: Rep Row 2. Rep these 12 rows for Cable Pat. BLANKETWith smaller needles, using Lullaby, cast on 116 sts. Work even in Cable Pat until piece measures approximately 24” from beg, end on WS with Row 8. Bind off. BORDERWith RS facing, using larger needles and Plush, pick up and k72 sts along left side of blanket. Beg with a p row, work even in St st for 4”, end on WS. Bind off. Repeat on right side of blanket. With RS facing, using larger needles and Plush, pick up and k82 sts along cast-on edge of blanket and edges of side borders. Beg with a p row, work even in St st for 4”, end on WS. Bind off. Repeat on bound-off edge of blanket.
