Straight knitting needles, size 11 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

 

GAUGE

15 sts = 4”;  28 rows = 4” in Pat St on size 11 needles TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE

NOTE 1

When slipping sts on Rows 2 and 3 of Pat St, do not pull yarn in front or in back of these sts up too tightly.

NOTE 2

When decreasing or increasing over Pat St, if you do not have enough sts to work an entire repeat, work the extra sts in St st.

 

PATTERN STITCH (Multiple of 6 sts + 2)

Row 1 (WS):  Knit.

Row 2:  K1, * sl 5 WYIF, k1, rep from * to last st, end k1.

Row 3:  P2, * sl 5 WYIB, p1, rep from * across.

Rows 4 and 6:  Knit.

Rows 5 and 7:  Purl.

Row 8:  * K3, sl RH needle under both loose strands from Rows 2 and 3, k the next st, then sl the loose strands over the st just knit, k2, rep from * to last 2 sts, end k2.

Rep these 8 rows for Pat St.

 

BACK

With straight needles, using Foliage, cast on 64(74-80-86-94-102) sts.  Keeping 1(0-0-0-1-2) sts at each side in St st and remaining sts in Pat St, work even until piece measures 14” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armholes:  Bind off 4(5-5-6-6-7) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 56(64-70-74-82-88) sts.  Dec 1 st at each armhole every RS row 5(7-8-9-11-12) times – 46(50-54-56-60-64) sts.  Work even until armholes measure 7(7 1/2-8-8 1/2-9-9 1/2)”, end on WS.

Shape Shoulders and Neck:  Bind off 4(4-5-6-5-7) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 4(5-5-5-6-6) sts at beg of the next 4 rows.  Bind off remaining 22(22-24-24-26-26) sts for back neck.

 

LEFT FRONT

With straight needles, using Foliage, cast on 34(38-42-46-50-54) sts.  Keeping 1(0-2-1-0-2) sts at each side in St st and remaining sts in Pat St, work even until piece measures 14” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armhole:  Bind off 4(5-5-6-6-7) sts at beg of next row, work to end – 30(33-37-40-44-47) sts.  Work 1 row even.  Dec 1 st at armhole edge every RS row 5(7-8-9-11-12) times – 25(26-29-31-33-35) sts.  Work even until armhole measures 5(5 1/2-6-6 1/2-7-7 1/2)”, end on RS.

Shape Neck:  Next Row (WS):  Bind off 6(6-7-7-8-8) sts, work to end – 19(20-22-24-25-27) sts.  Dec 1 st at neck edge every RS row 7(6-7-8-8-8) times – 12(14-15-16-17-19) sts.  When armhole measures 7(7 1/2-8-8 1/2-9-9 1/2)”, end on WS.  Bind off 4(4-5-6-5-7) sts at armhole edge once, then 4(5-5-5-6-6) sts twice for shoulder.

 

RIGHT FRONT

Work to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping.  Bind off for armhole on WS.  Bind off for neck on RS.  Bind off for shoulder on WS.

 

SLEEVES

With straight needles, using Foliage, cast on 32 sts.  Work even in Pat St for 2”, end on WS.  Inc 1 st each end of next row, then every 2 1/2(2 1/2-1 3/4-1 1/2-1 1/4-1)” 6(6-8-10-12-13) times more, working incs into Pat St as sts become available – 46(46-50-54-58-60) sts.  Work even until sleeve measures 18” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Cap:  Bind off 4(5-5-6-6-7) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 38(36-40-42-46-46) sts.  Dec 1 st each side every 6th row 0(0-0-0-0-1) time, every other RS row 5(8-7-8-8-8) times, then every RS row 9(3-5-3-3-0) times, end on WS.  Bind off remaining 10(14-16-20-24-28) sts.

 

FINISHING

Sew shoulder seams.

Collar:  With RS facing, using straight needles and Foliage, beg at right front edge, pick up and k70(70-74-74-78-78) sts around entire neck edge.  Keeping 1(1-0-0-2-2) sts at each side in St st and remaining sts in Pat St, work even for 2 1/2”, end on WS.  Bind off.  Sew in sleeves.  Sew side and sleeve seams.

Left Front Edging:  With RS facing, using straight needles and Foliage, beg at top of collar, pick up and k150(152-154-156-158-160) sts along edge of collar and left front edge.  Bind off knitwise.

Right Front Edging:  Beg at lower edge, work same as for left front edging.

Neck Tie:  Cut eight 32” long strands of Suede.  Put strands tog and knot each end.  Weave tie through first row of loose strands on collar as in photo.
