MATERIALS

5 Balls BERROCO FOLIAGE (50 grs), #5981 Cinnabar and 1 ball each #5922 Oleander and #5930 Russian Sage for Scarf.  1 Ball of each color for Hat

Crochet hooks, sizes 5.50 mm (I) and 7.00 mm (L) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

6 tr and 6 ch-2 spaces = 4” with size 5.50 mm (I) crochet hook

SCARF

With smaller crochet hook, using Cinnabar, ch 36. 

Row 1:  1 tr in 9th ch  (counts as t tr, ch and skip 2 ch’s) from hook, * ch 2, skip 2 ch, tr in next ch, rep from * across – 10 ch-2 spaces.  Turn.

Row 2:  Ch 6 (counts as 1 tr and ch 2), * tr in next tr, ch 2, rep from * across, end tr in 3rd ch of turning ch of row below.  Turn.  Rep Row 2 until piece measures 82” from beg.  Fasten off.

FLOWER A (Make 2 Oleander and 2 Russian Sage)

With larger crochet hook, ch 9, join with a sl st to form a ring.

Rnd 1:  Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 2 dc in ring, * ch 6, 3 dc in ring, rep from * 3 times more, ch 6, join with a sl st in 3rd ch of ch-3.

Rnd 2:  Sl st to next dc, * 11 dc in next ch-6 space, skip 1 dc, sc in next dc, skip 1 dc, rep from * 4 times more, join with a sl st in 1st dc – 5 petals made.

Rnd 3:  Ch 1, work 1 sc in each dc and sc around, join with a sl st in ch-1.

Rnd 4:  * Ch 9, sl st in back of work between next 2 petals, rep from * once more, ch 1, turn;  work (1 sc, 3 dc, 9 tr, 3 dc and 1 sc) all in next ch-9 space, sl st in sl st, work (1 sc, 3 dc, 9 tr, 3 dc and 1 sc) all in next ch-9 space, sl st in 1st ch of ch-9, ch 1, turn;  work 1 sc in each st of the 2 large petals just worked.  Fasten off.

FLOWER B (Make 2 Russian Sage)

With larger crochet hook, ch 4, 1 sc in 4th ch from hook, * ch 3, 1 sc in same st, rep from * twice more – 4 ch-3 spaces.

Rnd 2:  Ch 1, * (1 sc, 1 dc, 3 tr and 1 dc) all in next ch-3 space, rep from * around, join with a sl st in ch-1 – 4 petals made.

Rnd 3:  Holding petals forward, * ch 3, sl st in back of center petal on Rnd 1, ch 3, sl st between 2 petals on Rnd 1, rep from * around – 8 ch-3 spaces.

Rnd 4:  Ch 1, * (1 sc, 1 dc, 3 tr, 1 dc, 1 sc) all in next ch-3 space, rep from * around – 8 petals made.  Fasten off.

FLOWER C (Make 8 Russian Sage and 8 Oleander)

With smaller crochet hook, ch 4, join with a sl st to form a ring.

Rnd 1:  * Ch 8, sl st in ring, rep from * 5 times more – 6 petals made.

Rnd 2:  * Ch 10, skip ch-8 space, sl st in next sl st, rep from * 5 times more – 6 petals made.  Fasten off.

FLOWER D (Make 8 Russian Sage and 12 Oleander)

With smaller crochet hook, ch 5, join with a sl st to form a ring.

Rnd 1:  * Ch 8, sl st in ring, rep from * 7 times more – 8 petals made.

Rnd 2:  * Ch 10, skip ch-8 space, sl st in next sl st, rep from * 7 times more – 8 petals made.

Rnd 3:  * Ch 12, skip ch-10 space, sl st in next sl st, rep from * 7 times more – 8 petals made.  Fasten off.  Sew flowers to scarf using matching sewing thread as shown on diagram.  The flower pattern on both ends of scarf are the same.  Leave approximately 15” of scarf in center with no flowers to lessen bulk around neck.

HAT

With smaller crochet hook, using Cinnabar, ch 4, join with a sl st to form a ring.

Rnd 1:  Ch 1, work 13 sc’s in ring, join with a sl st in ch-1.

Rnd 2:  Ch 4, skip 1 sc, dc in next sc, rep from * around, end skip 1 sc, join with a sl st in 3rd ch of ch-4 – 7 ch-1 spaces.

Rnd 3:  Ch 4, dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, dc in next dc, rep from * around, end dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, join with a sl st in 3rd ch of ch-4 – 14 ch-1 spaces.

Rnd 4:  Ch 5, * dc in next dc, ch 2, rep from * around, join with a sl st in 3rd ch of ch-5 – 14 ch-2 spaces.

Rnd 5:  Rep Rnd 3 – 28 ch-1 spaces.

Rnd 6:  Rep Rnd 4 – 28 ch-2 spaces.

Rnd 7:  Ch 6, * tr in next dc, ch 2, rep from * around, join with a sl st in 4th ch of ch-6.  Rep Rnd 7 until hat measures 7” from beg.  Fasten off.  Make 1 Flower A using Russian Sage and 1 Flower D using Oleander.  Sew flowers to lower edge of hat as in photo.
