Headband:  Approximately 21” long x 5½”
Gauntlets:  Approximately 8” around x 10” long

MATERIALS
1 Ball each BERROCO BLACKSTONE TWEED (50 grs), #2601 Clover Honey (A), #2645 Concord (B) and #2637 Plum Island (C) for Headband and 1 ball each of same
colors for Gauntlets
Straight knitting needles, sizes 7 (4.50 mm) and 8 (5.00 mm) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
Crochet hook, size 4.50 mm (7)
One 1” button for Headband

GAUGE
29 sts = 4”; 32 rows = 4” in Star Tweed Pat on larger needles

STAR TWEED PATTERN (Multiple of 4 sts + 1)

Row 1 (WS):  With B, purl.

Row 2 (RS):  With C, k1, * sl 1 WYIB, insert needle under running thread between st just slipped and next st and knit this thread, sl 1 WYIB, k1, then pass first slipped st over 3 sts, k1, rep from * across.

Row 3:  With C, purl.

Row 4:  With B, k3, rep Row 1, end k2.

Row 5:  With B, purl.

Rep Rows 2 – 5 for Star Tweed Pat.

HEADBAND

With smaller needles, using A, cast on 17 sts.  Knit 4 rows.

Inc Row (RS):  K1, M1k, k to last st, M1k, k1 – 19 sts.  Rep this inc every 4th row 3 times more, marking beg and end of last inc row – 25 sts.  AT THE SAME TIME, when piece measures 1½” from beg, end on WS.  Mark center 2 sts on last row.

Buttonhole Row (RS):  Continuing to work incs, work to marker, bind off 2 sts, work to end.

Following Row:  Knit, casting on 2 sts over sts bound off on previous row.  When all incs have been completed, work even on 25 sts until piece measures 5” from beg, end on WS.  Change to larger needles and k the next row, inc 8 sts across – 33 sts.  Change to B and C and work even in Star Tweed Pat until piece measures 16” from beg, end on WS.  Change to smaller needles and A and k the next row, dec 8 sts across – 25 sts.  Work even until piece measures same as the other end of headband from markers to beg of Star Tweed Pat, end on WS.

Dec Row (RS):  K1, SSK, k to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1 – 23 sts.  Rep this dec every 4th row 3 times more – 17 sts.  Knit 5 rows, end on WS.  Bind off.

FINISHING

Edging:  With RS facing, using crochet hook, join A with a sl st in edge of headband.  Work in sc around entire headband, join with a sl st in first sc.

Rnd 2:  * Ch 2, sl st in next sc, rep from * around, join with a sl st in first ch of beg ch-2.  Fasten off.  Sew on button.

 

GAUNTLETS (Make 2)

Note:  Gauntlets are worked from the top down.

With smaller needles, using A, cast on 62 sts.

Ribbing:  Row 1 (RS):  K2, * p2, k2, rep from * across.

Row 2:  P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows twice more, end on WS, dec 1 st at end of last row – 61 sts.  Change to larger needles and B and C.  Work in Star Tweed Pat until piece measures 9” from beg, end on RS.  Change to smaller needles and A and p the next row, dec 3 sts across – 58 sts.  Work even in ribbing same as at beg for 6 rows, end on WS.  Bind off in ribbing.

FINISHING

Measure up 2” from bound-off edge and place marker.  Measure up 1½” from marker and place second marker.  Sew seam from bound-off edge to first marker.  Leaving 1½” open for thumb, sew seam from second marker to cast-on edge.

Edging:  With RS facing, using crochet hook, join A with a sl st at bottom edge of thumb opening.  Work around entire thumb opening in sc, join with a sl st in first sc.  Work Rnd 2 same as edging on headband.  Fasten off.
