BERROCO PRONTO PRINT (50 grs),
5(5-6-6-7) balls #4574 Fort Green.
Straight knitting needles, sizes 9 and 10 1/2 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
Cable needle (cn).
4 St markers.
2 St holders.
GAUGE
13 sts = 4; 19 rows = 4 in St st on size 10 1/2 needles.
10 sts = 1 1/2; 19 rows = 4 in Cable Pat on size 10 1/2 needles.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.
CABLE PATTERN A
Row 1 (RS): P2, (M1k, k1) twice, M1k, p2 9 sts.
Rows 2, 4 and 6: K2, p5, k2.
Rows 3 and 5: P2, k5, p2.
Row 7: P2, sl 3 sts onto cn and hold in FRONT, k1, M1k, k1, then
k3 from cn, p2 10 sts.
Rows 8, 10, and 12 and 14: K2, p6, k2.
Rows 9, 11 and 13: P2, k6, p2.
Row 15: P2, sl 3 sts to cn and hold in FRONT, k3, then k3 from
cn, p2.
Row 16: Rep Row 8.
Rep Rows 9-16 for Cable Pat A.
CABLE PATTERN B
Row 1 (RS): P2, (M1k, k1) twice, M1k, p2 9 sts.
Rows 2, 4 and 6: K2, p5, k2.
Rows 3 and 5: P2, k5, p2.
Row 7: P2, sl 2 sts onto cn and hold in BACK, k3, then k1, M1k,
k1 from cn, p2 10 sts.
Rows 8, 10 and 12 and 14: K2, p6, k2.
Rows 9, 11 and 13: P2, k6, p2.
Row 15: P2, sl 3 sts to cn and hold in BACK, k3, then k3 from cn,
p2.
Row 16: Rep Rows 9-16 for Cable Pat B.
BACK
With smaller needles, cast on 50(54-58-62-66) sts.
Row 1 (RS): K2, * p2, k2, rep from * across.
Row 2: P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across. Rep these 2 rows until
piece measures 3 from beg, end on WS, inc 2 sts evenly spaced across
last row 52(56-60-64-68) sts. Change to larger needles and work
even in St st until piece measures 9 1/2(9 1/2-10-10-10 1/2) from
beg, end on WS, dec 2 sts evenly spaced across last row 50(54-58-62-66)
sts. Change to smaller needles and work even in ribbing same as before
until piece measures 11(11-11 1/2-11 1/2-12) from beg, end on WS.
Bind off all sts in ribbing.
FRONT
Work same as for back until ribbing measures 3, end on RS.
Next Row (WS): Work 10(10-14-14-14) sts, place marker, work 6 sts,
place marker, work 18(22-18-22-26) sts, place marker, work 6 sts, place
marker, work to end. Change to larger needles.
Establish Cable Pats: Row 1 (RS): K to first marker, work Row 1
of Cable Pat A to next marker, k to next marker, work Row 1 of Cable Pat
B to last marker, k to end.
Row 2: P to first marker, work Row 2 of Cable Pat B to next marker,
p to next marker, work Row 2 of Cable Pat A to last marker, p to end.
Note: After you have completed Row 7 of Cable Pats A and B you
will have 58(62-66-70-74) sts on your needle. Work even in pats as established
until piece measures 9 1/2(9 1/2-10-10-10 1/2) from beg, end on
WS. Change to smaller needles.
Establish Ribbing: Next Row (RS): K2(0-2-2-0), (p2, k2) 2(3-3-3-4)
times, work Cable Pat A to next marker, k2, (p2, k2) 4(4-4-5-5) times,
work Cable Pat B to last marker, (k2, p2) 2(3-3-3-4) times, k2(0-2-2-0).
Work even in ribbing and Cable Pats as established until piece measures
11(11-11 1/2-11 1/2-12) from beg, end on WS.
Bind off for Straps: Row 1 (RS): Bind off 10(10-14-14-14) sts,
drop marker, work in Cable Pat A to next marker, drop marker, join another
ball of yarn and bind off center 18(22-18-22-26) sts, drop marker, work
Cable Pat B to last marker, work in ribbing to end.
Row 2: Bind off 10(10-14-14-14) sts, work in Cable Pats across
row. Working on both straps at once, work even until straps measure 14(15-15-16-17)
from bound-off sts, end on WS. Slip sts onto st holders.
FINISHING
Sew side seams. Try on garment and position ends of straps where desired
on back. Shorten or lengthen straps if necessary, then bind off all sts
of each strap. Sew ends of straps to top bound-off edge of back.
