MATERIALS

10(12) Balls BERROCO BOHO (50 grs), #9314 Newsprint

Straight knitting needles, size 9 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

29” and 16” Length circular knitting needles, size 9

1 Set (4) double pointed knitting needles (dpn)

1 St marker

Tapestry needle

GAUGE

20 sts = 4”;  25 rows = 4” in St st on size 9 needles

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE

NOTE

When there are too few sts to fit comfortably on longer circular needle, change to shorter circular needle, then finally to dpn’s.

BORDER

With straight needles, cast on 9 sts.

Row 1 (RS):  (Yo, SSK) twice, k1, k4.

Row 2:  (Yo, p2 tog) twice, p1, p4.  Rep these 2 rows 399 times more, end on WS.  Bind off 3 sts, drop the next st (the k1 on Row 1 and p1 on Row 2) off needle allowing it to unravel back to beg forming a ladder, then bind off remaining sts.  There should be 400 yo loops on each side.  Sew cast-on and bound-off edges tog forming a ring.

BODY

With RS facing, using longer circular needle pick up and k400 sts along one edge of border (1 st in each yo loop).  Join, mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.

Pattern St #1:  Rnd 1:  * Yo, k2 tog, rep from * around.  Rep this rnd 17(19) times more.

Dec Rnd 1:  * K8, k2 tog, rep from * around – 360 sts.

Pattern St #2:  Rnd 1:  * K2 tog, yo, SSK, rep from * around – 270 sts.

Rnd 2:  * K1, k1 and p1 in yo, k1, rep from * around – 360 sts.

Rnd 3:  * Yo, SSK, k2 tog, rep from * around – 270 sts.

Rnd 4:  * K1 and p1 in the yo, k2, rep from * around, replace your beg of rnd marker between the first k1 and p1 – 360 sts.

Rep Rnds 1 – 4 twice more, then rep Rnds 1 and 2 once more.

Dec Rnd 2:  * K7, k2 tog, rep from * around – 320 sts.

Pattern St #3:  Rnd 1:  * Yo, k2 tog, rep from * around.

Rnd 2:  Knit.  Rep these 2 rnds 6(8) times more.

Dec Rnd 3:  * K6, k2 tog, rep from * around – 280 sts.

Armhole Rnd:  K78(70), bind off 36(40) sts, k52(60), bind off 36(40) sts, k78(70).

Following Rnd:  K78(70), cast on 36(40) sts, k52(60), cast on 36(40) sts, k78(70) – 280 sts.

Pattern St #4:  Rnd 1:  * K2 tog, yo, SSK, rep from * around – 210 sts.

Rnd 2:  * K1, k1 and p1 in the yo, k1, rep from * around – 280 sts.  Rep these 2 rnds 3(5) times more.

Dec Rnd 4:  * K5, k2 tog, rep from * around – 240 sts.  Knit 2 rnds.

Pinwheel Pattern:  [K34, (k2 tog, yo) twice, k2 tog, place marker] 6 times;  * [k to 6 sts before marker, (k2 tog, yo) twice, k2 tog] 6 times, rep from * until 36 sts remain, changing to dpn’s when necessary.

Center:  Purl 2 rnds.

Rnd 1:  * Yo, p2 tog, rep from * around.

Rnd 2:  * P2 tog, rep from * around – 18 sts.

Rnd 3:  Rep Rnd 2 – 9 sts.  Break off yarn leaving an long end.  Thread end into tapestry needle and draw through all sts on needles.  Pull up tightly and secure.
