Note: This garment is designed with a great deal of overlap in the front, therefore the fit is very forgiving. MATERIALSBERROCO ZODIAC (50 grs), 13(14-15) balls #9633 Leo (A). BERROCO MONET (50 grs), 4(5-6) balls #3352 Poisson (B). Straight knitting needles, sizes 8 and 10 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE. Crochet hook, size 5.00 mm (H). 2 St holders. GAUGE16 sts = 4”; 24 rows = 4” in Reverse St st following stripe sequence on size 10 needles. TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE. NOTEThe body of this garment is knit in one piece from side to side.
STRIPE SEQUENCE Working in Reverse St st, work 6 rows A, then 2 rows B. Rep these 8 rows for Stripe Sequence.
BODY With larger straight needles, using A, cast on 116(118-120) sts. Row 1 (RS): K1, p1, k1, p to last 3 sts, k1, p1, k1. Row 2: P1, k1, p1, k to last 3 sts, p1, k1, p1. Following Stripe Sequence, rep these 2 rows until piece measures 14(15-16)” from beg, end on WS. Shape Right Armhole: Upper Edge: Next Row (RS): Work 45(46-47), sl remaining 71(72-73) sts onto holder. Following Row (WS): Bind off 5(6-7) sts, work to end – 40 sts. Dec 1 st at armhole edge EVERY row 5 times, then every RS row 5 times – 30 sts. Inc 1 st at armhole edge every RS row 5 times, then EVERY row 5 times, end on WS – 40 sts. Sl sts onto a holder. Lower Edge: With RS facing, sl 71(72-73) sts from 1st holder onto larger needle. Join yarn, bind off 5(6-7) sts, then work to end – 66 sts. Dec 1 st at armhole edge EVERY row 5 times, then every RS row 5 times – 56 sts. Inc 1 st at armhole edge every RS row 5 times, then EVERY row 5 times, end on WS – 66 sts. Sl sts onto a holder. Joining Row (RS): With RS facing, sl 40 sts from upper holder onto larger needle. Join yarn and work across, cast on 10(12-14) sts, then work 66 sts from lower holder – 116(118-120) sts. Work even until piece measures 32 1/2” from beg, end on WS. Shape left armhole same as for right armhole – 116(118-120) sts. Piece should measure approximately 38(41-44)” from beg. Work even until piece measures 52(56-60)” from beg, end on WS. Bind off all sts.
SLEEVES With smaller needles, using A, cast on 46 sts. Row 1 (RS): K2, * p2, k2, rep from * across. Row 2: P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across. Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 1 1/2” from beg, end on WS. Change to larger needles and p the next row, dec 12 sts evenly spaced across – 34 sts. Beg with a k row, work in Reverse St st following Stripe Sequence. Inc 1 st each side every 1 1/2(1 1/4-1)” 9(11-13) times, working incs in Reverse St st – 52(56-60) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 17 1/2” from beg, end on WS. Shape Cap: Bind off 5 sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 42(46-50) sts. Dec 1 st each side every other RS row 3 times, then every RS row 10 times, end on WS – 16(20-24) sts. Bind off 3 sts at beg of the next 2 rows. Bind off remaining 10(14-18) sts.
FINISHING Steam pieces with hot steam iron and a pressing cloth. Sew sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves. Fringe: Cut two 10” long strands of A. Put strands tog and fold in half. With RS facing, using crochet hook, draw center of strands through 1st st on cast-on edge of body forming a loop. Pull ends of fringe through this loop. In this manner, make fringe 1/2” apart along entire cast-on and bound-off edges of body. Trim fringe to even off if necessary. Note: For speedier cutting, wrap yarn multiple times around a piece of cardboard that is the desired finished length of fringe. Cut lower edge to free wrapped strands.
