FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Bust – 33(35-37-39-43-47)”.

Length – 18½(18½-19-19½-20-20½)” (Not including neck ties).

MATERIALS

BERROCO ZODIAC (50 grs), 5(6-6-7-7-8) balls #9607 Luna.

Straight knitting needles, sizes 6 and 8 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

One 1¾” diameter wooden ring.

GAUGE

20 sts = 4”;  28 rows = 4” in St st on size 8 needles.

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

BACK

With smaller needles, cast on 83(89-93-99-109-119) sts.

Row 1 (RS):  K1, * p1, k1 rep from * across.

Row 2:  P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows once more, end on WS.  Change to larger needles and work even in St st until piece measures 1 1/2” from beg, end on WS.

Dec Row (RS):  K1, k2 tog, k to last 3 sts, SSK, k1 – 81(87-91-97-107-117) sts.  Rep this dec every 1” 4 times more – 73(79-83-89-99-109) sts.  Work even until piece measures 7½” from beg, end on WS.

Inc Row (RS):  K1, M1k, k to last st, M1k, k1 – 75(81-85-91-101-111) sts.  Rep this inc every 1” 4 times more – 83(89-93-99-109-119) sts.  Work even until piece measures 12” from beg, end on WS.  Change to smaller needles and rep Rows 1 and 2 of lower ribbing twice, end on WS.  Bind off all sts tightly.

FRONT

Work same as for back until piece measures 12” from beg, end on WS – 83(89-93-99-109-119) sts.  Work even in St st until piece measures 12½” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armholes:  Bind off 3(4-5-5-6-6) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 77(81-83-89-97-107) sts.  Dec 1 st each side EVERY row 14(18-16-18-24-30) times, then every RS row 14(12-15-16-14-13) times, end on RS – 21 sts.

Next Row (WS):  P1, (p2 tog) 10 times – 11 sts.  Mark beg and end of last row.  Work even in St st for 1”, end on WS.  Bind off all sts.

FINISHING

Steam pieces with hot steam iron and a pressing cloth.

Armhole Edging:  With RS facing, using smaller needles, beg at start of left armhole, pick up and k45(47-51-55-59-63) sts across bound-off sts then along left armhole to marker.  Work in ribbing same as for back for 2 rows, end on RS.  Bind off all sts.  Repeat on right armhole.  Fold top 1” of front above markers to WS over wooden ring and sew in place.  Sew side seams.

Neck Ties (Make 2):  With larger needles, cast on 8 sts.

Row 1 (RS):  (K1, p1) 4 times.

Row 2:  (P1, k1) 4 times.  Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 23” or desired length, end on WS.  Dec 1 st at beg of RS rows and at end of WS rows until 1 st remains.  Fasten off.  Fold cast-on ends of both ties to WS over top section of wooden ring and sew in place.
