Louisa is a large shoulder sack knit in summer yarns with purchased
belt as a strap and additional decorative hardware.

 

SIZE

Approximately 17” wide x 22” high (Not including handle)

 

MATERIALS

5 balls BERROCO IDOL (50 grs), #1517 Diana

2 balls BERROCO SUEDE (50 grs), #3717 Wild Bill Hickock

29” Length circular knitting needle, size 11 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

16” Length circular knitting needle, size 8

Crochet hook, size 6.00 mm (J)

1 St marker

One 1 1/4” wide belt blank

Two 1 1/4” belt keepers

 

Note:  A belt of your choosing may be used instead of the above 2 items

One 7” long cord of braided leather

One 3/4” purse handle loop

One 3” long x 1/2” wide snap hook with swivel eye – bolt type

 

GAUGE

12 sts = 4”;  16 rows = 4” in St st with Idol and Suede held tog on size 11 needles

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE

 

BAG

With larger circular needle, using 1 strand each of Idol and Suede held tog, cast on 104 sts.  Join, being careful not to twist sts.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Work even in St st until piece measures 15” from beg.  Fasten off Suede and change to smaller circular needle.  Work in k2, p2 ribbing for 1”.

Next Rnd:  Bind off 6 sts, work in ribbing as established until there are 46 sts on RH needle, bind off 6 sts, work in ribbing as established to end.

Following Rnd:  Work in ribbing as established, cast on 6 sts over each group of sts bound-off on previous rnd.  * Work even in ribbing for 1 1/2”.  Work Next Rnd and Following Rnd.  Rep from * once more.  Work in ribbing for 1”.  Join Suede and change to larger circular needle.  Knit 3 rnds.  Purl 3 rnds.  Knit 3 rnds.  Bind off.

 

FINISHING

Fold bag in half.  Using crochet hook, work in Reverse sc across bottom edge working through double thickness.  Fasten off.  Insert purse handle loop through ring at end of snap hook and fasten loop through first 2 slits made in ribbing on one side of bag.  Fasten end of belt blank with snaps through slits in the other side of bag.  Slip 2 belt keepers over the other end of belt blank.  Insert free end of belt blank through slits on side of bag with snap hook and slide through belt keepers to hold in place.  Sew one end of braided leather cord to bottom of bag below snap hook.  Knot the other end of cord and fasten snap hook over knot to gather bag.
