MATERIALS
BERROCO ZODIAC (50 grs), 2 balls #9633 Leo (MC).
BERROCO SUEDE (50 grs), 1 ball #3753 Belle Star (CC).
Straight knitting needles, size 8 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN
GAUGE.
Crochet hook, size 5.00 mm (H).
One 2 1/2” diameter metal ring.
One 3” long x 1/2” wide snap hook with swivel eye – bolt type.
GAUGE
20 sts = 4”; 28 rows = 4” in St st with MC on size 8 needles.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.
BAG FRONT
With straight needles, using MC, cast on 53 sts. Work even in St st for 5”, end on WS. Mark beg and end of last row for beg of top. Dec 1 st at beg of the next 10 rows, end on WS. Bind off remaining 43 sts.
BAG BACK
Work same as for Bag Front.
FINISHING
Steam pieces with hot steam iron and a pressing cloth. Sew edges of front and back tog along lower and side edges up to markers.
Top Edging: Join MC at left side edge at marker. Using crochet hook, work in Reverse Sc along entire front and back edge of bag top, join with a sl st in first Reverse Sc.
Fringe: Cut two 12” long strands of CC. Put strands tog and fold in half. With crochet hook, draw center of strands through double thickness of back and front on right side of bag forming a lp. Pull ends of fringe through this lp. In this manner, make fringe 1/2” apart along right and left side of bag. Make fringe along each shaped side of bag to bound-off edges. Trim fringe to even off if necessary.
Note: For speedier cutting, wrap yarn multiple times around a piece of cardboard that is the desired finished length of the fringe. Cut the lower edge to free wrapped strands. Using CC, sew ring at base of snap hook to center of lower edge of front of bag. Using CC, sew 2 1/2” ring to center of top edge on back of bag. Fasten snap hook around 2 1/2” ring to close.
Handles (Make 2): With crochet hook, using 1 strand each of MC and CC held tog, ch 3. Join with a sl st to form a ring. Work 1 sc in each sc, then continue to work around in sc until handle measures 12” from beg. Fasten off. Sew 1 end of 1st handle to each end of bound-off edge on back. In same manner sew 2nd handle to front.
