Zen Idol

Marni is a crocheted draw string shoulder bag.

SIZE

Approximately 22” circumference x 11” high (Not including handles)

MATERIALS

1 Ball each BERROCO ZEN (50 grs), #8256 Dragonfly (A) and #8269 Samsura (B)

1 Ball each BERROCO IDOL (50 grs), #1505 Liz (C) and #1556 Paris (D)

Crochet hook, size 9.00 mm (M) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

GAUGE

10 sc = 4”;  9 rnds = 4” in sc worked TBL with 1 strand each of Zen and Idol held tog using size 9.00 (M) crochet hook

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE

NOTE

All rnds are worked TBL.

BAG

With crochet hook, using 1 strand each A and C held tog, ch 4, join with a sl st to form a ring.  Work 6 sc’s in ring, join with a sl st in first sc.

Rnd 2:  Ch 1, working TBL, work 2 sc in each sc around, join with a sl st in ch-1 – 12 sc.

Rnd 3:  Ch 1, * working TBL, work 1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep from * around, join with a sl st in ch-1 – 18 sc.

Rnd 4:  Ch 1, * working TBL, work 1 sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep from * around, join with a sl st in ch-1 – 24 sc.  Change to 1 strand each B and D held tog and continue to inc 6 sts each rnd having 1 more sc between incs 3 times more – 42 sc.  Change to 1 strand each A and C held tog and continue to inc 6 sts each rnd having 1 more sc between incs 3 times more – 60 sc.  From here, work even with no more incs.  Work 3 rnds with B and D held tog.  Work 9 rnds with A and C held tog.  Work 2 rnds with B and D held tog.

Eyelet Rnd:  Ch 1, * working TBL, sc in next 5 sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc, rep from * around, join with a sl st in ch-1 – 10 eyelets.

Next Rnd: Ch 1, working TBL, work 1 sc in each sc and ch-1 space around – 60 sc.  Work 1 rnd even.  Fasten off.

HANDLES

With crochet hook, using A and C held tog, make a chain 32” long (or desired length).  Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across.  Ch 1, turn.  Work 1 sc in each sc across.  Fasten off.  Make second handle using B and D held tog.

TWISTED CORD

Cut four 170” long strands of C.  Put strands tog and fold in half.  Tie ends in a knot.  Holding the knot in your hand, slip the loop over a hook and pull tight.  Slip a pencil through the knotted end and twist until cord is so tight that it can’t be twisted further and starts to double back on itself.  Put 1 finger in center of cord and carefully fold in half, letting 2 ends of cord twist tog.  Knot both ends leaving 1 1/2” free for tassels.

FINISHING

Lay bag flat.  Sew ends of 1 handle to front of bag 1” in from each side.  Sew ends of 2nd handle to back of bag 1” in from each side.  Beg and end at center front, weave twisted cord in and out of eyelet rnd.
