MATERIALS

1 Ball BERROCO SOX (100 grs), #1431 Venachar

1 Set (4) double pointed knitting needles, size 2 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

2 St markers

Tapestry needle

GAUGE

30 sts = 4”;  40 rows = 4” in St st

MITTEN (Make 2)

With dpn’s, cast on 60 sts.  Divide sts evenly onto 3 needles (20 sts per needle) and join, being careful not to twist sts.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Work even in k2, p2 ribbing for 2”.  Work even in St st (k EVERY rnd) until piece measures 4” from beg.

Thumb Gusset:  Next Rnd:  K1, place marker, m1k, k2, M1k, place marker, k to end – 62 sts.  Knit 3 rnds. Continue to inc 1 st after 1st marker and before 2nd marker every 4th rnd 8 times more – 78 sts (20 sts between markers).

Hand:  Next Rnd:  K1, drop 1st marker, sl next 20 sts onto a piece of waste yarn for thumb, drop 2nd marker, cast on 2 sts, k to end – 60 sts.  Work even in St st until piece measures 1” less than desired length.

Shape Top:  Dec Rnd 1:  * K3, k2 tog, rep from * around – 48 sts.  Knit 2 rnds.

Dec Rnd 2:  * K2, k2 tog, rep from * around – 36 sts.  Knit 2 rnds.

Dec Rnd 3:  * K1, k2 tog, rep from * around – 24 sts.  Knit 2 rnds.

Dec Rnd 4:  * K2 tog, rep from * around – 12 sts.  Break off yarn leaving an 8” long end.  Thread end into tapestry needle and draw through all sts on needles.  Pull up tightly and secure.

Thumb:  Sl 20 sts from waste yarn back onto 3 dpn’s and divide sts onto 3 needles.  Join yarn and k20, pick up and k1 st before cast-on sts, 2 sts across cast-on sts and 1 st after cast-on sts – 24 sts.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Work even in St st until thumb measures 1/2” less than desired length.

Dec Rnd:  * K2 tog, rep from * around –12 sts.  Knit 1 rnd.  Rep Dec Rnd once more – 6 sts.  Break off yarn leaving an 8” long end.  Thread end into tapestry needle and draw through all sts on needles.  Pull up tightly and secure.
