SIZE

Approximately 10” across x 6 1/2” high (Not including handles)

 

MATERIALS

1 Hank each BERROCO PERUVIA (100 grs), #7155 Rojo (A) and #7134 Black (B)

Straight knitting needles, size 10 (6.00 mm) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Tapestry needle

1 Pair (2) 10" or 12" inch long sewn round leather handles with 6" dowel and 1/2" finial set

 

GAUGE

17 sts = 4”;  22 rows = 4” in St st

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE

 

NOTE

Bag is made from the top down

 

BAG

With straight needles, using A, cast on 80 sts.  Work even in Reverse St st for 6 rows, end on WS.  Change to B and work even in St st for 6 rows, then work even in Reverse St st for 4 rows, end on WS.  Change to A and work even in St st for 6 rows.  Change to B and work even in Reverse St st for 2 rows, end on WS.

Dec Row 1 (RS):  With B, * p3 tog, p7, rep from * across – 64 sts.  Work 3 rows even in Reverse St st, end on WS.

Dec Row 2 (RS):  With B, * k3 tog, k5, rep from * across – 48 sts.  Beg with a p row, work 3 rows even in St st, end on WS.  Change to A.

Dec Row 3 (RS):  With A, * k3 tog, k3, rep from * across – 32 sts.  Beg with a p row, work 3 rows even in St st, end on WS.

Dec Row 4 (RS):  * K2 tog, rep from * across – 16 sts. Purl 1 row.

Dec Row 5 (RS):  Rep Dec Row 4 – 8 sts.  Purl 1 row.

 

FINISHING

Break off yarn leaving a long end for sewing.  Thread end into tapestry needle and draw through all sts on needle.  Pull up tightly and secure.  Sew side seam.  With seam at side, position one handle on center front of bag and sew to cast-on edge with tapestry needle and A.  Repeat with the other handle on back of bag.
