MATERIALS

11(11-13) Balls BERROCO PURE MERINO HEATHER (50 grs), #8618 Dusk

Straight knitting needles, size 9 (5.50 mm) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

29” Length circular knitting needle, size 9 (5.50 mm)

GAUGE

18 sts = 4”;  24 rows = 4” in St st

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE

BACK

With straight needles, cast on 1 st.

Row 1 (RS):  Knit 1.

Row 2:  Purl 1.  Working in St st, cast on 5(5-6) sts at beg of the next 12(20-6) rows, then 4(4-5) sts at beg of the next 12(4-18) rows, end on WS – 109(117-127) sts.

Dec Row (RS):  K1, SSK, k to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1 – 107(115-125) sts.  Rep this dec every 4th row 31(28-27) times more, then every RS row 0(7-9) times – 45(45-53) sts.  Work even until piece measures 25” from beg measured straight up from center point, end on WS.  Bind off.

LEFT FRONT

With straight needles, cast on 54(58-64) sts.  Work 2 rows in St st, end on WS.

Shape Neck:  Dec Row (RS):  K to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1 – 53(57-63) sts.  Rep this dec every 4th row 4(0-0) times more, then every RS row 40(48-50) times. Work even until piece measures 17” from beg, end on WS.  Bind off.

RIGHT FRONT

With straight needles, cast on 54(58-64) sts.  Work even in St st for 5”, end on WS.

Shape Neck:  Dec row (RS):  K1, SSK, k to end – 53(57-63) sts.  Rep this dec every 4th row 4(0-0) times more, then every RS row 40(48-50) times. Work even until piece measures 22” from beg, end on WS.  Bind off.

SLEEVES

With straight needles, cast on 45 sts.  Work even in St st for 1”, end on WS.

Inc Row (RS):  K1, M1k, k to last st, M1k, k1 – 47 sts.  Rep this inc every 1” 0(4-13) times, every 1 1/2” 8(8-2) times, then every 2” 2(0-0) times – 67(71-77) sts.  Work even until sleeve measures 18” from beg, end on WS.  Bind off.

FINISHING

Note:  Sew all seams so that they show on the RS of work.  These are called welted seams.  Sew shoulder seams.  Measure down 7 1/2(8-8 1/2)” from each shoulder seam on back and fronts and mark for armholes.  Sew on sleeves between markers.  Sew side and sleeve seams.

Collar:  With RS facing, using circular needle, beg at lower edge of Right Front, pick up and k102 sts to right shoulder seam, 28 sts across back neck edge, then 82 sts to lower edge of Left Front – 212 sts.  Beg with a p row, work even in St st for 8 rows, end on RS.  Work 7 rows in Reverse St st, end on RS.  Work 8 rows St st, end on RS.  Bind off purlwise on WS.
