SIZE
To fit women’s size Medium hand – approximately 7” around x 12 1/2” long (with finger cap over fingers)

MATERIALS
2 hanks BERROCO PERUVIA QUICK (100 grs), #9152 Saddle Brown
1 set (4) double pointed knitting needles (dpn), size 11 (8.00 mm) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
Crochet hook, size 5.50 mm (I)
2 St markers
Tapestry needle
Two 1” buttons

12 sts = 4”;  16 rnds = 4” in St st

MITTEN (Make 2)

With dpn’s, cast on 32 sts.  Divide sts on 3 needles and join, being careful not to twist sts.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.

Seed St:  Rnd 1:  * K1, p1, rep from * around.

Rnd 2:  * P1, k1, rep from * around.  Rep these 2 rnds until piece measures 3” from beg.  Knit 1 rnd.  Purl 2 rnds.

Eyelet Rnd:  * K2, yo, k2 tog, rep from * around – 32 sts.  Purl 1 rnd.  K the next rnd, dec 4 sts around – 28 sts.  Work even in St st (k EVERY rnd) until piece measures 6 1/2” from beg.

Thumb Gusset:  Next Rnd:  Drop 1st marker, K1, place marker, M1k, k2, M1k, place marker, k to end – 30 sts.  Knit 4 rnds.  Inc 1 st after 1st marker and 1 st before 2nd marker on next rnd – 32 sts (6 sts beween markers).  Work even until piece measures 8 1/2” from beg.

Hand:  K1, drop 1st marker, sl next 6 sts onto a piece of waste yarn, drop 2nd marker, cast on 2 sts, k to end, place marker for beg of rnd – 28 sts.  Work even in St st until piece measures 9” from beg.  Work in Seed St for 3 rnds.  Bind off.

Thumb:  With RS facing, sl 6 sts from waste yarn onto dpn’s, dividing sts on 3 needles.  Join yarn and k6, pick up and k2 sts across sts cast-on for hand – 8 sts.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Work in St st for 1”.  Bind off.

FINGER CAP (Make 2)

With dpn’s, cast on 32 sts.  Divide sts on 3 dpn’s and join, being careful not to twist sts.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Work in Seed St same as mitten for 3 rnds. Knit 4 rnds.

Dec Rnd 1:  K1, SSK, k10, k2 tog, k1, place marker, k1, SSK, k10, k2 tog, k1 – 28 sts.  Knit 2 rnd.

Dec Rnd 2: K1, SSK, k8, k2 tog, k1, place marker, k1, SSK, k8, k2 tog, k1 – 24 sts. Knit 1 rnd.  Continue to dec 4 sts every other rnd 4 times more in this manner, having 2 less sts between decs each time – 8 sts.  Sl 4 sts onto one dpn and 4 sts onto another.  Holding needles parallel, weave sts tog using Kitchener St.

FINISHING

Sew half of cast-on edge of Finger Cap to back half of Mitten at beg of Seed St band.

Buttonloop:  With crochet hook, join 2 strands of yarn held tog to top of Finger Cap with a sl st.  Make a chain 1 1/2” long.  Join to top of Finger Cap with a sl st.  Sew button on center back of Mitten 5” up from cast-on edge.
