Zen Zen Colors

Nicky, our triangular shawl knit in double stranded Zen ribbon alternates elongated sts and garter st.

SIZE

Approximately 56” wide x 36” long (Not including fringe)

MATERIALS

8 balls BERROCO ZEN (50 grs), #8269 Samsara

29” Length circular knitting needle, size 15 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Crochet hook, size 5.50 mm (I) for fringe

GAUGE

8 sts = 4”;  6 rows = 2 1/2” in Pat St on size 15 needles with 2 strands held tog

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE

SHAWL

With circular needle and 2 balls of yarn held tog, cast on 1 st.

Row 1:  K in front, back, then front of st – 3 sts.

Row 2:  K in front and back of 1st st, k1, k in front and back of last st – 5 sts.

Row 3:  K1, k in front and back of next st, k1, k in front and back of next st, k1 – 7 sts.

Row 4:   K1, k in front and back of next st, k3, k in front and back of next st, k1 – 9 sts.

PATTERN STITCH

Row 1 (WS):  K1, * (yo) twice, k1, rep from * across.

Row 2:  Knit, dropping all yo’s.

Row 3:  K1, k in front and back of next st, k to last 2 sts, k in front and back of next st, k1.

Rows 4 – 6:  Rep Row 3.

Rep Rows 1 – 6 twelve times more – 113 sts.

Bind Off Row:  Knit, * bind off 5 sts, yo, rep from * across, binding off all sts as you go.

FINISHING

Fringe:  Cut two 22” long strands of yarn.  Put strands tog and fold in half.  With RS facing, using crochet hook, draw center of strands through cast-on st at point of shawl forming a loop.  Pull ends of strands through this loop.  In this manner, make fringe in each Garter Ridge along both side edges of shawl.  Trim to even off if necessary.

Note:  For speedier cutting, wrap yarn multiple times around a piece of cardboard that is the desired length of fringe.  Cut lower edge to free wrapped strands.
