MATERIALS BERROCO CHINCHILLA (50 grs), 5(6-7-7-8) balls #5334 Black (MC). BERROCO METALLIC FX (25 grs), 5(6-7-8-9) hanks #1004 Silver/Black (CC). Straight knitting needles, sizes 6 and 8 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE. 24” length circular knitting needle, size 6. 5 St markers. GAUGE14 sts = 4”; 20 rows = 4” in St st with MC on size 8 needles. 28 sts = 4” in k1, p1 ribbing with CC on size 6 needles. TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.
BACK With smaller straight needles, using CC, cast on 89(101-115-129-143) sts. Row 1 (RS): K1, * p1, k1, rep from * across. Row 2: P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across. Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 5” from beg, end on RS. Change to larger needles and MC and p the next row, dec 43(49-55-63-69) sts evenly spaced across – 46(52-60-66-74) sts. Work even in St st until piece measures 9” from beg, end on WS. Shape Sleeves: Inc 1 st each side every RS row 2(2-1-1-0) times, then every other RS row 4(4-5-5-6) times, end on WS – 58(64-72-78-86) sts. Work even if necessary until piece measures 13(13-13 1/2-13 1/2-14)” from beg, end on WS. Cast on 30 sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 118(124-132-138-146) sts. Shape V-Neck: Dec Row 1 (RS): K56(59-63-66-70), k2 tog, k1, join another ball of MC then k1, SSK, k to end – 58(61-65-68-72) sts each side. Working both sides at once, dec 1 st at each neck edge in this manner every RS row 10 times more, then every other RS row once – 47(50-54-57-61) sts each side. Work even until sleeves measure 7” above last cast-on row, end on WS. Bind off all sts each side for top of sleeves and shoulders.
FRONT Work same as for back.
FINISHING Sew shoulder/sleeve seams. Neckband: With RS facing, using circular needle and CC, beg at left shoulder seam, pick up and k46 sts along left front neck edge, place marker, pick up and k1 st in center of V, place marker, pick up and k46 sts along right front neck edge, 46 sts along right back neck edge, place marker, pick up and k1 st in center of V, place marker, pick up and k46 sts along left back neck – 186 sts. Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up. Rnd 1: Work in k1, p1 ribbing to 2 sts before 1st marker, SSK, sl marker, k1, sl marker, k2 tog, work in k1, p1 ribbing to 2 sts before next marker, SSK, sl marker, k1, sl marker, k2 tog, work in k1, p1 ribbing to end – 182 sts. Rep this rnd once more, then work in St st continuing to dec 4 sts in this manner every rnd until neckband measures 3/4”. Bind off all sts. Sleeveband: With RS facing, using smaller straight needles and CC, pick up and k81 sts along lower edge of sleeve. Work in ribbing same as for back for 2 rows, end on RS. Beg with a p row, work in St st until sleeveband measures 3/4”, end on WS. Bind off all sts. Sew side, sleeve and sleeveband seams.
