FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Bust – 33(35 1/2-39-42 1/2-47-50 1/2)”.

Length – 19(19-19 1/2-20-20 1/2-21)”.

MATERIALS

BERROCO CALICO (50 grs), 8(8-9-10-12-13) balls #1823 Pink ‘n’ Blue.

Straight knitting needles, size 10 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

16” Length circular knitting needle, size 10.

GAUGE

18 sts = 4”;  24 rows = 4” in St st on size 10 needles.

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

BACK

With straight needles, cast on 74(80-88-96-106-114) sts.  Purl 1 (WS) row.  Knit 1 row.  Beg with a k row, work in Reverse St st until piece measures 12” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armholes:Bind off 4(5-6-6-7-9) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 66(70-76-84-92-96) sts.

Dec Row (RS): P1, p2tog, p to last 3 sts, p2tog, p1 – 64(68-74-82-90-94) sts.  Rep this dec every RS row 5(5-5-7-9-9) times more – 54(58-64-68-72-76) sts. Work even until armholes measure 6(6-6 1/2-7-7 1/2-8)”, end on WS.

Next Row (RS): P14(16-19-20-22-24), join another ball of yarn and bind off center 26(26-26-28-28-28) sts, p to end. Working both sides at once, bind off 2 sts at each neck edge twice. Bind off remaining 10(12-15-16-18-20) sts each side for shoulders.

FRONT

With straight needles, cast on 74(80-88-96-106-114) sts.  Purl 1 (WS) row.  Knit 1 row.

Establish Center Rib:  Row 1 (WS):K33(36-40-44-49-53), p3, k2, p3, k33(36-40-44-49-53).

Row 2: P(33-40-44-49-53), k3, p2, k3, p(33-40-44-49-53).

Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 12” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armholes: Work same as for Back – 54(58-64-68-72-76) sts.  Work even until armholes measure 2(2-2 1/2-3-3 1/2-4)”, end on WS.

Shape Neck:Next Row (RS):  P21(23-26-28-30-32), k2tog, k3, p1, join a second ball of yarn, p1, k3, SSK, p21(23-26-28-30-32) – 26(28-31-33-35-37) sts each side. Working both sides at once, rep this dec every RS row 5 times more – 21(23-26-28-30-32) sts each side.  Work even if necessary until armholes measure 4(4-4 1/2-5-5 1/2-6)”, end on WS.  Bind off 7 sts at each neck once, then dec 1 st at neck edge every RS row 4(4-4-5-5-5) times – 10(12-15-16-18-20) sts each side.  Work even until armholes measure 7(7-7 1/2-8-8 1/2-9)” from beg, end on WS.  Bind off all sts for shoulders.

SLEEVES

Right Side:With straight needles, cast on 18(18-20-22-24-27) sts.  Purl 1 WS row.

Shape Slit and Sleeve:

Row 1 (RS): P to last 4 sts, M1p, k3, p1 – 19(19-21-23-25-28) sts.

Row 2:K1, p3, k to end.

Rows 3-4:Rep Rows 1-2 – 20(20-22-24-26-29) sts.

Row 5:P1, M1p, p to last 4 sts, M1p, k3, p1 – 22(22-24-26-28-31) sts.

Row 6:Rep Row 2.

Rows 7-12:Rep Rows 1-2 – 25(25-27-29-31-34) sts.

Place sts on holder.

Left Side:Work to correspond to right side, reversing all shaping and placement of rib. Leave sts on left-hand needle.  Break off yarn.  Sl 25(25-27-29-32-34) sts from right side holder onto LH needle – 50(50-54-58-62-68) sts.

Joining (Inc) Row (RS):   Join yarn and p1, M1p, p20(20-22-24-26-29), k3, p2, k3, p20(20-22-24-26-29), M1p, p1 – 52(52-56-60-64-70) sts.  Work even for 7 rows.

Inc Row (RS):P1, M1p, p to last st, M1p, p1 – 54(54-58-62-66-72) sts. Work even until piece measures 5” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Cap:Bind off 4(5-6-6-7-9) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 46(44-46-50-52-54) sts.  Dec 1 st at each side every 8th row 0(0-0-0-0-1) time, every 6th row 0(0-0-0-3-3) times, every other RS row 4(5-6-6-2-0) times, then every RS row 5(3-1-1-0-0) times, end on WS.  Bind off 3 sts at beg of the next 4 rows. Bind off remaining 16(16-20-24-30-34) sts.

FINISHING

Steam pieces with hot steam iron and a pressing cloth.  Sew shoulder seams.  Sew in sleeves.  Sew side and sleeve seams.

Neck Edging:With RS facing, using circular needle, beg at right front neck, pick up and k85(92-92-96-96-96) sts along neck edge. Bind off all sts knitwise.
