SIZES

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Bust – 33(35-37-39-43-47)”.

Length – 29(29 1/2-30-30 1/2-31-31)”.

MATERIALS

BERROCO SUEDE TRI-COLOR (50 grs), 6(6-7-7-8-8) balls #3798 Chihuahua (A).

BERROCO SUEDE (50 grs), 3(3-4-4-5-5) balls #3746 Palomino (B).

Straight knitting needles, sizes 6 and 8 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

29” Length circular knitting needle, size 8.

Crochet hook, size 5.00 mm (H).

3 St markers (1 a different color).

Large-eyed tapestry needle.

Optional:  4 Small wooden beads for ends of ties.

 

GAUGE

19 sts = 4”;  28 rows = 4” in St st with A on size 8 circular needle.

21 sts = 4”;  32 rows = 4” in k1, p1 ribbing with A on size 6 needles.

18 sts = 4”;  27 rows = 4” in Lace Pat with B on size 8 needles.

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

 

NOTE

When increasing or decreasing over Lace Pat, make sure that each yo is balanced by a k2 tog or an SSK.  If there are not enough sts to work an entire repeat of pat st, work extra sts in St st.

 

LACE PATTERN (Multiple of 6 sts + 3)

Row 1 (RS):  Knit.

Row 2 and all WS rows:  Purl.

Row 3:  * K4, yo, SSK, rep from * across, end k3.

Row 5:  K2, * k2 tog, yo, k1, yo, SSK, k1, rep from * across, end k2 instead of k1.

Row 7:  K1, k2 tog, yo, * k3, yo, sl 1, k2 tog, psso, yo, rep from * across, end last rep SSK, k1 instead of k2 tog, psso, yo.

Row 9:  Rep Row 5.

Row 11:  Rep Row 3.

Row 12:  Purl.

Rep these 12 rows for Lace Pat.

 

BACK

With smaller straight needles, using A, cast on 69(75-79-85-95-105) sts.

Row 1 (RS):  K1, * p1, k1, rep from * across.

Row 2:  P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 3” from beg, end on WS.  Change to larger straight needles and B.  Keeping 0(0-2-2-1-0) sts at each side in St st and remaining sts in Lace Pat, work even for 1 1/2(2-2-2-2-2)”, end on WS.  Inc 1 st each side of next row, then rep this inc every 1 1/2(2-2-2-2-2)” 2(1-1-1-1-1) times more, working incs in St st – 75(79-83-89-99-109) sts.  Work even until piece measures 8” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Armholes:  Bind off 4(4-4-4-5-5) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 67(71-75-81-89-99) sts.

Dec Row (RS):  K1, SSK, work to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1 – 65(69-73-79-87-97) sts.  Purl 1 row.  Rep these 2 rows 5(7-7-8-9-12) times more – 55(55-59-63-69-73) sts.  Work even until armholes measure 3 1/2(4-4 1/2-5-5 1/2-5 1/2)”, end on WS.

Shape Neck:  Next Row (RS):  Work 20(20-21-23-25-26) sts, join another ball of B and bind off center 15(15-17-17-21-21) sts, work to end.  Bind off 3 sts at each neck edge once, then 2 sts once – 15(15-16-18-19-21) sts each side.  Note:  Work decs on left side of neck as k2 tog.  Work decs on right side of neck as SSK.  Working both sides at once, dec 1 st at each neck edge as in note every RS row 5 times – 10(10-11-13-14-16) sts each side.  Work even until armholes measure 7(7 1/2-8-8 1/2-9-9)”, end on WS.  Bind off all sts.

 

FRONT

Work same as for back until armholes measure approximately 1/2(1-1 1/2-2-2 1/2-2 1/2)” and there are 63(65-65-67-73-83) sts on needle, end on WS.

Shape Neck:  K1, SSK, work 21(21-21-22-23-28) sts, join another ball of B and bind off center 15(15-17-17-21-21) sts, work to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1 – 23(23-23-24-25-30) sts on each side.  Continue to dec at armholes same as for back.  AT THE SAME TIME, bind off 3 sts at each neck edge once, 2 sts once, then dec 1 st at each neck edge in same manner as for back 5 times.  Work even on 10(10-11-13-14-16) sts each side until armholes measure 7(7 1/2-8-8 1/2-9-9)”, end on WS.  Bind off all sts.  Sew shoulder and side seams.

 

LOWER SECTION

With RS facing, using circular needle and A, beg at center back, working along cast-on edge of ribbing, pick up and k54(56-59-61-66-71) sts across back to left side seam, place marker pick up and k109(113-118-123-132-143) sts across front to right side seam, place marker, then pick up and k55(57-59-62-66-71) sts along back to center – 218(226-236-246-264-284) sts.  Mark for beg of rnd with different colored marker and carry marker up.

Rnds 1 and 2: K to 1st marker, M1k, sl marker, k to 2nd marker, M1k, sl marker, k to end – 222(230-240-250-268-288) sts.  Work even in St st until lower section measures 5 1/2” from ribbing.  Rep Rnd 1 once more – 224(232-242-252-270-290) sts.  Work even until lower section measures 14” from ribbing.  Bind off all sts.

 

FINISHING

Steam piece with hot steam iron and a pressing cloth.

Lower Edging:  With RS facing, using crochet hook and A, beg at center back, work in sc around entire lower edge of lower section.  Join with a sl st in first sc.

Rnd 2:  Ch 1, sc in each sc around, join with a sl st in ch-1.  Fasten off.

Neck Edging:  Beg at center back neck, work same as for Lower Edging.

Armhole Edging:  Beg at side seams, work same as for Lower Edging.

Drawstring:  With crochet hook, using A, make two 68(70-72-74-78-82)” long chains.  Hold the 2 chains tog and thread them into tapestry needle.  Starting and ending at center front, weave chains in and out along center of ribbing at waist as in photo.  Holding the 2 chains together at one end, tie them together 3” up from end using an overhand knot.  Thread a bead onto each 3” end below knot, then tie 3” ends tog tightly.  Trim ends and slide beads over knot.  Repeat for the other end of 2 chains.
