MATERIALS
BERROCO BLUEFACED LEICESTER (50 grs),
2(1) balls #7022 Crimson (MC).
Note: BERROCO SOFTWIST (50 grs), 2(1)
hanks #9470 Real Red may be substituted for BERROCO BLUEFACED LEICESTER.
BERROCO ZAP (50 grs), 1 hank #3534 Pitch
Black (CC).
1 Set each Double Pointed Needles (dpn), sizes 8 and 10 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN
GAUGE.
1 St Holder.
1 St Marker.
GAUGES
15 sts = 4"; 18 rows = 4" in Reverse St st with 2 strands of
CC worked tog on size 10 needles.
20 sts = 4"; 28 rows = 4" in St st with MC on size 8 needles.
26 sts = 4"; 28 rows = 4" in Cable Pat with MC on size 8 needles.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.
CABLE PATTERN
Rnds 1-4: K1, * p1, k4, p1, k2, rep from * around, end k1 instead of k2.
Rnd 5: K1, * p1, sl 2 sts to cn and hold in FRONT, k2, then k2 from cn,
p1, k2, rep from * around, end k1 instead of k2.
Rnd 6: Rep Rnd 1.
Rep these 6 rnds for Cable Pat.
STOCKING
With larger needles, using 2 strands of CC held tog, loosely cast on 36(23)
sts. Join, being careful not to twist sts. Mark for beg of rnd and carry
marker up. Work even in Reverse St st for 2 1/2(1 1/2)". Change to
MC and smaller needles. K the next rnd, inc 12(9) sts evenly spaced around
– 48(32) sts. Work even in Cable Pat for 4(2 1/2)". Make a note
of which Cable Pat Row you ended on.
Divide for Heel and Foot: K12(7), sl next 24(18) sts onto holder, turn,
p24(14), dec 5(1) sts evenly spaced across – 19(13) sts. Work back
and forth on these sts as follows:
Heel: Row 1 (RS): K1, * sl 1, k1, rep from * across.
Row 2: Purl. Rep these 2 rows until Heel measures 2(1 1/4)",
end on RS.
Turn Heel: Row 1 (WS): P12(10), p2 tog, p1, turn.
Row 2: Sl 1, k6(0), SKP, k1, turn.
Row 3: Sl 1, p7(2), p2 tog, p1, turn.
Row 4: Sl 1, k8(2), SKP, k1, turn.
Row 5: Sl 1, p9(3), p2 tog, p1, turn.
Row 6: Sl 1, k10(4), SKP, k1 – 13(7) sts. DO NOT turn. Pick
up and k14(7) sts along side of heel piece; with 2nd needle, work 24(18)
sts from holder in Cable Pat as established; with 3rd needle, pick up
and k14(7) sts along other side of heel piece, then k5(2), SKP from 1st
needle - 64(38) sts. Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.
Shape Heel Gusset: Rnd 1: On 1st needle, k to last 3 sts, k2 tog,
k1; on 2nd needle, work in Cable Pat as established across 24(18) sts;
on 3rd needle, k1, SKP, k to end – 1 st dec’d on each heel needle.
Rep this rnd until 10(7) sts remain on each heel needle – 44(32)
sts. Work even in pat as established until foot measures 1 1/2(1)"
less than desired length, dec 4 sts evenly spaced across instep sts (2nd
needle) on last rnd – 40(28) sts.
Shape Toe: Rnd 1: K to last 3 sts of 1st needle, k2 tog, k1; on
2nd needle, k1, SKP, k to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1; on 3rd needle, k1, SKP,
k to end – 4 sts dec’d. Rep this rnd until there are 3(2) sts
on each heel needle and 6(4) sts on instep needle. Sl sts from both heel
needles onto 1 needle. Weave heel sts and instep sts tog. Fasten off.
