Yarn used ...

The back and front of our felted hand bag are each knit in a different shade of Ultra Alpaca, sewn together and trimmed with a blanket stitch. The front is decorated with needle felted roses in Hip-Hop.

MATERIALS

2 Hanks each BERROCO ULTRA ALPACA (100 grs), #6229 Sweet Potato (A) and #6276 Woodland Mix (B)

1 Hank each BERROCO HIP-HOP (100 grs), #7240 Zion, #7256 Autumn Leevz and #7255 Red Spyda

Straight knitting needles, size 15

Tapestry Needle

1 Needle felting tool and brush

 

NOTE 1

There are no gauge requirements for this project.

NOTE 2

2 Strands of Ultra Alpaca are worked tog throughout.

 

BAG BACK

With straight needles, using 2 strands of B held tog, cast on 60 sts.  Work even in St st until piece measures 15” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Top:  Dec Row (RS):  K1, SSK, k to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1 – 58 sts.  Rep this dec every RS row 4 times more, end on WS – 50 sts.

Shape Handle:  Row 1 (RS):  K1, SSK, k14, bind off 16, k14, k2 tog, k1.

Row 2:  Purl, casting on 22 sts over sts bound off on previous row – 54 sts.  Rep Dec Row every RS row 7 times more, end on WS – 40 sts.  Bind off.

 

BAG FRONT

Work same as bag back using A.

 

FINISHING

Felt bag back and front by washing in washing machine using hot water and soap.  Check fit often while washing. Rinse well.  Shape pieces by hand and allow to air dry.  Following directions on needle felting tool package, make 4 flowers using Hip-Hop on bag front as in photo.  With RS tog, sew side and bottom edges of back and front tog with blanket stitch.  Turn bag right-side out.  Using 1 strand of A and tapestry needle, work in blanket stitch around handle opening and along top edge of back.  Using 1 strand of B and tapestry needle, work in blanket stitch around handle opening and along top edge of front.
