MATERIALS
BERROCO UXBRIDGE TWEED (50 grs),
1 ball each #1168 Normandy (A),
#1167 Red Setter (B) and
#1157 Oats & Barley (C) for Hat,
2 balls each for Scarf.
1 Set double-pointed needles (dpn), size 9 for Hat.
Straight knitting needles, size 9 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE for Scarf.
1 St Marker.

GAUGE
16 sts = 4"; 23 rows = 4’ in St st on size 9 needles.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

HAT
With straight needles, using A, cast on 78 sts. Divide sts evenly on 3 dpn’s. Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.
Rnd 1: * K3, p3, rep from * around. Work even in ribbing as established until piece measures 3 1/2" from beg. Join B and work in ribbing until piece measures 7 1/2" from beg. Join C and work in ribbing for 1 more rnd.
Dec Rnd 1: * K3, p2 tog, p1, rep from * around - 65 sts.
Next Rnd: * K3, p2, rep from * around.
Dec Rnd 2: * K3, p2 tog, rep from * around – 52 sts.
Next Rnd: * K3, p1, rep from * around.
Dec Rnd 3: * K2, k2 tog, rep from * around – 39 sts.
Dec Rnd 4: K1, * k2 tog, rep from * around – 20 sts.
Next Rnd: Knit.
Dec Rnd 5: * K2 tog, rep from * around – 10 sts.
Dec Rnd 6: * K2 tog, rep from * around – 5 sts. Break off yarn, leaving an end for finishing. Pull end through all sts on needles and draw up tightly. Fasten off. Sew in ends of other colors.

SCARF
Approximately 9 1/2" wide x 69 1/2" long.
NOTE 1
When changing colors, always hold color to the left and pick up new color from underneath. This twists yarn so there are no holes.
NOTE 2
Use a separate hank of yarn for each color section. DO NOT carry yarn across.

With straight needles, using A, cast on 38 sts. Knit 18 rows.
Establish Vertical Stripe Pattern: Next Row (RS): With A, k13; join B and k12; join C and k13. Work even in Garter St, following Vertical Stripe Pat as established until you run out of A Ours measured 67" from beg, but yours may differ. End on WS. Drop A and B and knit 18 rows with C. Bind off all sts.
