SIZES

Directions are for children’s size 4.  Changes for sizes 6, 8 and 10 are in parentheses.

 

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Chest – 26(28-30-31)”

Length – 15(15 1/2-15 1/2-16)” to lowest point

 

MATERIALS

6(6-7-8) Hanks BERROCO COTTON TWIST (50 grs), #8334 Dali

Straight knitting needles, size 8 (5.00 mm) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Crochet hook, size 5.00 mm (H)

 

GAUGES

19 sts = 4”;  26 rows = 4” in St st on straight needles

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE

Note:  Both st and row gauge are extremely important to assure that your garment will have the correct measurements.

 

NOTE 1

Both back and front are worked in 2 sections. 

 

LEFT BACK

With straight needles, cast on 18(19-21-21) sts.  Work even in St st until piece measures 5 1/2” from beg, end on WS. Mark beg of last row for beg of armhole.  Work even until armhole measures 5 1/2(6-6-6 1/2)”, end on RS.

Shape Shoulder:  Bind off 6(7-7-7) sts at beg of the next row, then 6(6-7-7) sts at same edge twice for shoulder.

 

RIGHT BACK

With straight needles, cast on 46(48-50-52) sts.  Work even in St st until piece measures 8 1/2” from beg, end on WS.  Mark end of last row for beg of armhole.  Work even until armhole measures 5 1/2(6-6-6 1/2)”, end on WS.

Shape Shoulder:  Bind off 6(7-7-7) sts at beg of the next row once, then 6(6-7-7) sts at same edge twice for shoulder. Bind off remaining 28(29-29-31) sts for back neck.

 

LEFT FRONT

Work same as left back until piece measures 5½” from beg, end on WS.  Mark end of last row for beg of armhole.  Work even until armhole measures 5 1/2(6-6-6 1/2)”, end on WS.

Shape Shoulder:  Bind off 6(7-7-7) sts at beg of the next row, then 6(6-7-7) sts at same edge twice for shoulder.

 

RIGHT FRONT

Work same as right back until piece measures 8 1/2” from beg, end on WS.  Mark beg of last row for beg of armhole.  Work even until armhole measures 4 1/2(5-5-5 1/2)” end on WS.

Shape Neck:  Bind off 4(4-4-6) sts at beg of the next row, 4(5-5-5) sts at same edge once more, then 5 sts at same edge 4 times more.  AT THE SAME TIME, when armhole measures 5 1/2(6-6-6 1/2)” (before all neck bind-offs have been completed), bind off 6(7-7-7) sts at beg of the next WS row, then 6(6-7-7) sts at same edge twice for shoulder while continuing to bind off for neck.

 

SLEEVES

With straight needles, cast on 30(30-32-32) sts.  Work even in St st for 1”, end on WS.  Inc 1 st each side on next row, then every 3/4” 10(12-13-14) times more – 52(56-56-62) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 10 1/2(11 1/2-12 1/2-13 1/2)” from beg, end on WS.  Bind off.

 

FINISHING

Sew back sections tog with seams on the outside.  Repeat with front sections.  Sew sleeves to armholes with seams on the outside. Sew side and sleeve seams in usual manner.

Neck Edging:  With RS facing, using crochet hook, beg at left shoulder seam, work in sc around entire neck edge.  Join with a sl st in 1st sc.  Fasten off.
